IBYC member Dave Chapin was 3 times world champion, after winning the Snipe Worlds in 1979 with Timothy Dixon, and the Sunfish Worlds in 1979 and 1981, besides several times national and North American champion in Laser, Sunfish, Snipe, 470 and Soling. [5]

Buccaneer Yacht Club is a member-run sailing club which has operated out of Mobile Bay, Alabama since 1928. It is a member club of the Gulf Yachting Association and the United States Sailing Association. Its members are active competitors in Finn, Viper 640, 420, Fish class sloop, Flying Scot, Laser, Optimist, Sunfish, PHRF and Portsmouth class events.
