Ismail Johari (13 March 1947 - 16 July 2017) was the author of the Bukit Kepong novel published by Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) in 1990 and one of the main script writers of the Bukit Kepong film produced by Jins Shamsuddin in 1981, [1] both of which were based on an actual armed incident that took place on 23 February 1950 between the Federation of Malaya Police and gunmen of the Malayan Communist Party during the Malayan Emergency. [2] [3] The Bukit Kepong novel was adopted as the Form 4 secondary school and Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) educational teaching material. [4]
Ismail, the second child out of five siblings was born and raised in Tanjung Karang, Selangor. His parents held various laborious jobs to provide Ismail and his siblings good education and a comfortable living.
Ismail was a dedicated and committed police officer, holding various ranks during his 19-year service with the Royal Malaysia Police before pursuing a career as a private investigator and a fraud examiner.
He died on 16 July 2017 at the age of 70. [5]

Bukit Kepong incident was an armed encounter which took place on 23 February 1950 between the Federation of Malaya Police and the gunmen of Malayan Communist Party during the Malayan Emergency. This conflict took place in an area surrounding the Bukit Kepong police station in Bukit Kepong. The wooden station was located on the river banks of the Muar River, about 59 km from Muar town, Johor.
Mohamed Azmin bin Ali is a Malaysian politician who has served as the Senior Minister for Finance and Economics, Minister of International Trade and Industry in the Perikatan Nasional (PN) administration under Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin since March 2020, Member of Parliament (MP) for Gombak and Member of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Bukit Antarabangsa since March 2008. He served as the Minister of Economic Affairs in the Pakatan Harapan (PH) administration under former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad from May 2018 to the collapse of the PH administration in February 2020 and Menteri Besar of Selangor from September 2014 to June 2018. He is a member, member of the Supreme Council and Chairman of the International Bureau of the Malaysian United Indigenous Party (BERSATU), a component party of the ruling PN coalition. He is a founding member, was a member and served as Deputy President of the People's Justice Party (PKR), a component party of the PH opposition coalition, from November 2010 to his resignation from party in February 2020 with several other MPs and its vice-president from November 2001 to November 2010. He is also former President of the Football Association of Selangor (FAS).
Muar or Bandar Maharani, is a historical town and the capital of Muar District, Johor, Malaysia. It is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Malaysia to be visited and explored for its food, coffee and historical prewar buildings. It was recently declared as the royal town of Johor by Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar and is the fourth largest city in Johor. It is the main and biggest town of the bigger entity region or area of the same name, Muar which is sub-divided into the Muar district and the new Tangkak district, which was upgraded into a full-fledged district from the Tangkak sub-district earlier. Muar district as the only district covering the whole area formerly borders Malacca in the northern part. Upon the upgrading of Tangkak district, the Muar district now covers only the area south of Sungai Muar, whilst the northern area beyond the river is in within Tangkak district. However, both divided administrative districts are still collectively and fondly called and referred to as the region or area of Muar as a whole by their residents and outsiders. Currently, the new township of Muar is located in the Bakri area.
Sekolah Menengah Sains Sabah is a fully residential school established in Malaysian state of Sabah. As the first fully residential school in East Malaysia and the 27th of its kind in Malaysia, SMESH was previously known as Sekolah Berasrama Penuh Sabah (SBPS). SMESH was established in 1978 but became fully operational on 1 January 1984. It has a 16-acre (65,000 m2) permanent campus in Bukit Padang, Kota Kinabalu. Due to the unsafe state of the campus, SMESH is temporarily operated in a temporary campus in Tuaran.
Abu Hassan bin Omar was a Malaysian politician from United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), a major component party of Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition. He was the 12th Menteri Besar of Selangor, Malaysia, from 1997 to 2000. Previously he was also the Minister of Social Welfare (1985–1986), Minister of Federal Territories (1986–1987), Minister of Foreign Affairs (1987–1991) and Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (1991–1997). He was also a former Member of Parliament for Kuala Selangor (1978–1997) and Selangor state assemblyman for Permatang (1997–1999) in Selangor.
Mohamad bin Sabu, commonly known as Mat Sabu, is a Malaysian politician who served as the Minister of Defence in the Pakatan Harapan (PH) administration under former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad from May 2018 to the collapse of the PH administration in February 2020. He has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kota Raja since May 2018, Kuala Kedah from November 1999 to March 2004, Kubang Kerian from April 1995 to November 1999 and Nilam Puri from October 1990 to April 1995. He has also served as the founding and 1st President of the National Trust Party (AMANAH), a component party of the PH opposition coalition and rebranded from the Malaysian Workers' Party (PPPM) after it was taken over by the Gerakan Harapan Baru (GHB) led by him which left the Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) in 2015 thanks to their ideological differences with the PAS leaders, since 2015. He also served as Deputy President of PAS, a former component party of the former Pakatan Rakyat (PR) and Barisan Alternatif (BA) opposition coalitions, from 2011 to 2015. He was elected to the party deputy presidency in 2011, running on a moderate platform against the conservative incumbent Nasharudin Mat Isa. He had also served as the party Vice-President prior to his election as the party Deputy President. He was the first non-alim elected to the party leadership or deputy presidency in over 25 years.

Bukit Kepong is a 1981 Malaysian action and patriotic film produced and directed by Jins Shamsuddin starring himself, A. Rahim and Hussein Abu Hassan. The film was based on the real story of Communist terrorist siege of Bukit Kepong in 1950. The film has won eight awards in the third Malaysia Film Festival in 1982, including Best Film. The Bukit Kepong film was released in 1981. It was the most expensive film eighties decade with the production cost totalling MYR 1.3 million.
