Israel Madaye (born 23 March 1988) [1] is a Chadian archer. A bronze medalist at the 2019 African Games, he qualified to compete at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Career

A keen footballer in his youth, he began archery at the age of 19 years old. He won a regional event in Niger in 2013 and went on to reach the quarter-finals at the 2016 African Archery Championships in Windhoek, Namibia. [2]

He won the bronze medal in the mixed team recurve event with Marlyse Hourtou at the 2019 African Games in Rabat. At the Games, he also finished fourth in the individual event and won bronze in the team event. [3] [4]

In 2023, he won the gold medal in the mixed team recurve bow with Martine Abaïfouta Hallas Maria at the 2023 African Archery Championships in Nabeul, Tunisia. [5] [6] With that result he automatically qualified for the 2024 Olympic Games. [7]

In July 2024, he was confirmed to be representing Chad at the 2024 Paris Olympics. [8]

In August 2024, he joined Good Neighbors (organization) as a global influencer, who supports initiatives to empower children in African countries. [9]

Personal life

He is a resident archer at the World Archery Excellence Centre in Lausanne, Switzerland. [10]

In the Tokyo 2020 Olympics his best result was a men's team 5th. Huston currently lives near Lilleshall National Sporting Centre and trained full-time under senior national coach Richard Priestman for Archery UK, while remaining a loyal founding member of East Belfast Archery Club. Mete Gazoz is a Turkish recurve archer. He won the gold medal in the men's individual event at the 2020 Summer Olympics held in Tokyo, Japan. He also represented Turkey at the 2016 Summer Olympics held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In the 2023 World Archery Championships held in Berlin, Mete Gazoz emerged victorious, claiming the prestigious Individual title. In an intense final, he triumphed over the skilled Canadian archer Eric Peters, securing his place as the first Turkish archer to achieve the esteemed recurve gold medal in a World Championship.

Bryony Michaela Pitman is a British archer competing in women's recurve events. She won the gold medal in the women's recurve team event at the 2019 European Games held in Minsk, Belarus. Earlier in 2019, she won the bronze medal in the women's team recurve event at the World Archery Championships held in 's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands.

Lisa Barbelin is a French archer, who won the recurve events at the 2021 European Archery Championships, and 2022 European Indoor Archery Championships. She has previously won multiple medals at the World Youth Archery Championships, and won bronze medals in events at the 2019 and 2022 Archery World Cups. In June 2021 she was the world's number one ranked competitor. Barbelin competed in the women’s individual event at the 2020 and 2024 Olympic Games, winning the bronze medal in the latter.

Michelle Kroppen is a German archer. She competed in the women's individual event, and women's team, at the 2020 Summer Olympics, winning a bronze medal.

Marlyse Hourtou is a Chadian archer. She competed in the women's individual event at the 2020 Summer Olympics, becoming the first athlete from Chad to contest the Olympic Games in the sport. Hourtou was eliminated in the opening round by South Korea's An San and competed despite her single bow breaking during the course of the Games.

The archery competitions at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris took place over seven days, from 25 July to 4 August, at Les Invalides. 128 archers competed across five events, with the mixed team recurve returning to the Olympic program for the second time.

This article details the qualifying phase for archery at the 2024 Summer Olympics. The competition at these Games will comprise a total of 128 archers, with an equal distribution between men and women, coming from their respective NOCs; each is permitted to enter a maximum of six archers, three per gender. NOCs that qualify for a gender-based team recurve can select three members to form a squad, ensuring that each of them must compete in the individual recurve.

Bhajan Kaur is an Indian archer from Haryana. She was selected for the Indian Archery team for the recurve events at the 2022 Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China. Along with Ankita Bhakat and Simranjeet Kaur, she won the Women's team recurve event bronze medal for India. The Indian trio defeated the Vietnamese team 6–2 in the bronze-medal play-off. On 16 June 2024, she won a gold in the final Olympic qualifier at Anatalya, Turkey. She represented India at the 2024 Summer Olympic Games at Paris.

BommadevaraDhiraj is an Indian archer from Andhra Pradesh. He represents India in the recurve men's individual and team events. In the recurve men, he is ranked 12th in the World Rankings. He booked a berth for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. In the buildup to the Olympics in June 2024, he won a bronze medal at the World Cup 2024 in Antalya.

Alex Wise is a British archer competing in recurve events. He was selected to compete at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Satsuki Noda is a Japanese archer competing in women's recurve events. She was a bronze medalist at the 2023 World Archery Championships, and a silver medal at the 2022 Asian Games.
