<span class="mw-page-title-main">Issyk-Kul</span> Lake in northeastern Kyrgyzstan

Issyk-Kul is an endorheic saline lake in the western Tianshan Mountains in eastern Kyrgyzstan, just south of a dividing range separating Kyrgyzstan from Kazakhstan. It is the seventh-deepest lake in the world, the tenth-largest lake in the world by volume, the deepest lake whose deepest point is above sea level, and the third-largest saline lake. Issyk-Kul means "warm lake" in the Kyrgyz language; although it is located at a lofty elevation of 1,607 metres (5,272 ft) and subject to severe cold during winter, it rarely freezes, due to the salinity.

The national flag of Kyrgyzstan consists of a red field charged with a yellow sun that contains a depiction of a tunduk, the opening in the center of the roof of a yurt. Adopted in 1992, just over seven months after the country's independence was declared, to replace the flag of the Kirghiz Soviet Socialist Republic (SSR), it has been the flag of the Kyrgyz Republic since that year. The red on the flag is said to be inspired by the pennant lifted by Manas, the country's folk hero.

Naryn is the regional administrative center of Naryn Region in central Kyrgyzstan. Its area is 84 square kilometres (32 sq mi), and its estimated population was 41,178 as of January 2021. The town was established as a fortress on the caravan route in 1868. It is situated on both banks of the river Naryn, which cuts a picturesque gorge through the town. The city has two regional museums and some hotels, but is otherwise residential.

Balykchy is a town at the western end of Lake Issyk-Kul in Kyrgyzstan, at an elevation of about 1,900 metres. Its area is 38 square kilometres (15 sq mi), and its resident population was 42,875 in 2021. A major industrial and transport centre during the Soviet era, it lost most of its economic base after the collapse of the Soviet Union and the closure of virtually all of its industrial facilities.

It takes its name from Lake Issyk-Kul, the world's second-largest high altitude lake. Its total area is 43,735 km2 (16,886 sq mi). The resident population of the region was 501,933 as of January 2021. The region has a sizeable Russian minority.

Barskoon is a settlement on the southern shore of Lake Issyk Kul in the Issyk-Kul Region of Kyrgyzstan. Its population was 9,040 in 2021. It is on the A363 highway between Bökönbaev to the west and Kyzyl-Suu to the east.

The Kumtor mine is one of the largest gold mines in Central Asia. The mine has been producing gold since 1997 and has produced over 13.8 million ounces of gold as of June 30, 2022. At 13,000 feet, the mine is the second-highest in the world, behind only Yanacocha in Peru.

Song-Köl is an alpine lake in northern Naryn Region, Kyrgyzstan. It lies at an altitude of 3016 m, and has an area of about 270 km2 and volume of 2.64 km3. The lake's maximum length is 29 km, breadth about 18 km, and the deepest point is 13.2 m. It is the second largest lake in Kyrgyzstan after Issyk-Kul, and the largest fresh water lake in Kyrgyzstan.

Dolon Pass is a pass located between the Songköl Too and the Bayduluu Range in Naryn Region, Kyrgyzstan. The pass lies at 3,030 metres (9,940 ft). Highway of international significance ЭМ-11 connecting Bishkek, Balykchy, Naryn, Torugart, and Kyrgyzstan-China border, which is also known as European route E125 and Asian Highway 61 in Kyrgyzstan, traverses the pass.

Christianity has a long history in Kyrgyzstan, with the earliest archaeological remains of churches belonging to the Church of the East in modern-day Suyab dating back to the 7th century. By the 9th century an archdiocese of the Church of the East cared for the Christians of Kyrgyzstan and adjacent areas in eastern Turkestan. Although primarily Turkic there was also an Armenian community in what today is Kyrgyzstan by the 14th century. By the 15th century, however, there were no longer ecclesiastical structures of any church caring for what is today Kyrgyzstan and Islam gained the ascendancy amongst the Kyrgyz people.

Sadyr Nurgojo uulu Japarov is a Kyrgyz politician who is currently serving as the president of Kyrgyzstan since 28 January 2021. He had previously served as the acting prime minister of Kyrgyzstan in the 2020 interim government following the resignation of President Sooronbay Jeenbekov. Japarov also became acting president of Kyrgyzstan after Jeenbekov's resignation but resigned himself on 14 November 2020 to run for the 2021 presidential election, where he was elected to succeed the acting president Talant Mamytov.

Kyzart Pass is a pass located between the Kum-Bel and the Baba-Ata ranges in Naryn Region of Kyrgyzstan. It connects Kochkor and Jumgal valleys. The elevation of the pass which is kept open all your round is 2,664 m (8,740 ft). The eastern slope is gentle, and the western is steep. Highway of international significance ЭМ-18 connecting Kochkor, Chaek, Suusamyr and Töö Ashuu traverses the pass.

Mukay Elebayev was a Kyrgyz poet and author born in Chong Tash village, Semirechye Oblast, Russian Turkestan in what is now the Tüp District of Issyk-Kul Region, Kyrgyzstan on 15 January 1906. Left orphaned at age 9, he fled to China in 1916 during the Urkun, returning a year later.

The Astana Marathon is an annual road-based marathon hosted by Astana, Kazakhstan, since 2015. The marathon is a World Athletics Label Road Race and a member of the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races. A 10K race is also held on the same day.

The Castellón Marathon is an annual road-based marathon hosted by Castellón de la Plana, Spain, since 2010. The marathon is a World Athletics Label Road Race.
