Istifanus Gyang (born 1964) is a Nigerian senator who is representing Plateau North Senatorial District in the 9th National Assembly. He is an indigene of Plateau state. [1]

Background

Gyang attended Government Secondary School, Riyom where he obtained his West African School Certificate (WASC) in 1981. He furthered his education at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria where he was awarded a bachelor's degree in International Studies in 1986. He also attended the University of Jos finishing with a second degree in law in 2004. He was called to the Nigerian bar in 2007. [2]

Political career

In 2015, Gyang contested for a seat in the House of Representatives for the Barkin Ladi/Riyom constituency. He was declared winner under the banner of the PDP (Peoples Democratic Party). [3] In 2019, he contested for a seat in the Senate under the People's Democratic Party (PDP) [2] representing Plateau North senatorial district and he currently serves as a senator in the 9th National Assembly.

Gyang Dalyop Dantong was a Nigerian senator who represented the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State. He became a member of the Nigerian Senate in 2007. On 12 April 2003, he was elected to the 5th House of Representatives on the platform of the ANPP defeating his closest rival James Vwi of the PDP. Air Commodore Jonah David Jang (Rtd) CON (born 13 March 1944) is a Nigerian statesman who was the Governor of Plateau State from 2007 to 2015. He had previously served as Military Governor of Benue State and Gongola State. He ran successfully for re-election on 26 April 2011. In 2015, Jang ran and won Plateau North Senate District seat as his term as Governor of Plateau State drew to a close. In 2018 Jang declared his senate seat vacant and said it was time for the people of Plateau North to decide who would represent them at the red chamber. Jang was at the time making a nocturnal political consultations to run for the presidential ticket of the main opposition, PDP for the 2019 presidential election.

Incumbent APC Governor Simon Lalong is term-limited and cannot seek re-election to a third term.

The 2019 Nigerian Senate election in Bayelsa State was held on February 23, 2019, to elect members of the Nigerian Senate to represent Bayelsa State. Douye Diri representing Bayelsa Central, and Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo representing Bayelsa West both won on the platform of the People's Democratic Party (Nigeria), while Biobarakuma Degi representing Bayelsa East won on the platform of All Progressives Congress.

The 2019 Nigerian Senate election in Plateau State was held on February 23, 2019, to elect members of the Nigerian Senate to represent Plateau State. Ignatius Datong Longjan representing Plateau South and Hezekiah Ayuba Dimka representing Plateau Central all won on the platform of All Progressives Congress while Istifanus Gyang representing Plateau North won on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party.
