Fidesz – Hungarian Civic Alliance is a right-wing populist and national-conservative political party in Hungary led by Viktor Orbán. It has increasingly identified as illiberal.
The Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians is a regionalist political party in Serbia, representing the Hungarian minority.

Parliamentary elections were held in Hungary on 3 April 2022 to elect the National Assembly, coinciding with a referendum. Hungary's incumbent prime minister Viktor Orbán won re-election to a fourth term. Addressing his supporters after the partial results showed Fidesz leading by a wide margin, Orbán said: "We won a victory so big that you can see it from the moon, and you can certainly see it from Brussels." Opposition leader Péter Márki-Zay admitted defeat shortly after Orbán's speech. Reuters described it as a "crushing victory".

An ethnic Hungarian, he has led the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians (VMSZ) since October 2023, initially on an acting basis and since March 2024 as the party's elected president. Pásztor has served in the Serbian parliament since 2007 and was also the president of the Subotica city assembly from 2020 to 2024.

She previously served two terms in the Serbian national assembly and was a secretary of state in Serbia's education ministry from 2016 to 2024. In Serbian politics, Vicsek is a member of the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians (VMSZ), which is aligned with Fidesz.
Provincial elections were held in Vojvodina on 17 December 2023 to elect members of the Assembly of Vojvodina. Initially scheduled to be held by 30 June 2024, the possibility of calling a snap election was discussed in 2023. The Assembly dissolved itself on 16 November 2023, setting the election date for 17 December. It was concurrently held with the parliamentary and local elections in 65 cities and municipalities in Serbia.
