The Cactus Al/Bum is the debut album by hip hop trio 3rd Bass, released on Def Jam Recordings on November 14, 1989. The album received positive reviews from the hip hop press. It was certified gold by the RIAA on April 24, 1990, the same day as Biz Markie's The Biz Never Sleeps, which was released two weeks prior to The Cactus Album.
"I Want That Man" is a 1989 song recorded by the American singer Deborah Harry. The song was released as the lead single from her third solo album, Def, Dumb & Blonde and was the first record Harry released in which she reverted to using Deborah as her name instead of Debbie. It became a hit in several territories, reaching number two in Australia and on the US Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart. The single also became a top-twenty hit in Ireland, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
"Come Close" is a single by rapper Common featuring guest vocals by Mary J. Blige. The song is produced by Chad Hugo and Pharrell's production team, The Neptunes. Peaking at #65 on the Billboard Hot 100, "Come Close" is the only song from Common's 2002 album Electric Circus to make an appearance on the national music chart. It was released in conjunction with a promo video directed by Sanaa Hamri and Questlove of The Roots. The song's lyrics are a loving marriage proposition to Common's then girlfriend Erykah Badu. Jack LV Isles of Allmusic describes it as a "slow-paced dialogue [...] that borders on typical," but will inevitably be a commercial success. Mark Anthony Neal of Pop Matters comments on its mainstream sound saying that it's not a "sell-out" track, just a "fly love song" in which The Neptunes "brought their A-game."
"Girls, Girls, Girls" is the second single from rapper Jay-Z's album The Blueprint (2001). The single was released on October 2, 2001. It is a playful description of the artist's promiscuous lifestyle. The song contains a sample of "There's Nothing In This World That Can Stop Me From Loving You" by Tom Brock, who died the following year. The chorus features a lyrical interpolation of "High Power Rap" by Crash Crew. The song has additional vocals sung by Q-Tip, Slick Rick and Biz Markie, but they are not credited as featured guests on the back artwork; they are, however, credited in the album's liner notes.
"Feel Your Love" is a pop-dance and new jack swing song co-written by Alanis Morissette and Leslie Howe, and produced by Howe for Morissette's debut album, Alanis (1991). Its protagonist tells a boy she has "got this thing" for him, and that "it's drivin' me right out of my mind ... I wanna feel your love; you know this waitin' for you boy I can't stand". Morissette's brothers Chad and Wade provided some of the song's backing vocals. It was released as the album's third single in 1991 and was the second commercial single release after "Too Hot". The single charted at number 24 in Canada.
"Go!" is the third single from the Common album Be. It is produced by Kanye West, who also performs backing vocals for the track alongside John Mayer. The track's percussion is handled by Num Amuntehu, while its scratches are provided by A-Trak. Its beat contains a sample from "Old Smokey" by Linda Lewis. Its lyrics deal with sexual fantasies.
"Classic " is a collaboration song between Rakim, Kanye West, Nas, KRS-One and that is co-produced by Rick Rubin and DJ Premier. The song was released as a single on February 20, 2007 by Nike Records. It was performed live at the Nike Air Force Ones 25th anniversary party shown on MTV2.
"Just Another Day..." is a single released from Queen Latifah's 1993 third studio album Black Reign. The song was written by Queen Latifah and Apache. "Anything" is a song by rapper Jay-Z that is found on the Vinyl 12" "Anything " 1999 with a Remix of DJ Tomekk from Def Jam Germany and later on Beanie Sigel's 2000 album The Truth. It is produced by Sam Sneed and P. Skam, who sample Lionel Bart's "I'll Do Anything" for the track's beat and chorus. The sample from Oliver! heavily popularized "Anything", as did the Annie sample on "Hard Knock Life ", "Anything" was also a bonus track on Jay-Z's album Vol. 3... Life and Times of S. Carter as is "Anything " on the Japanese version of the album.
"Change the Game" is the second single from rapper Jay-Z from his 2000 album The Dynasty: Roc La Familia. It features guest raps by Memphis Bleek and Beanie Sigel, production from Rick Rock and backing vocals by Static Major. Upon release, the song's intention was to promote Sigel and Bleek, but Steve Juon of RapReviews.com considers Jay-Z to outperform both rappers. A music video directed by David Meyers was made for "Change the Game."
"Duffle Bag Boy" is a song by American hip hop duo Playaz Circle, released as the debut lead single from their debut album, Supply & Demand (2007). The song features a guest appearance from fellow American rapper Lil Wayne and was produced by M16 and Liam Kantwill. The song peaked in the Top 40 of the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, reaching number 15.
"For a Minute" is a song by American hip hop recording artist B.G., released as the first single from his tenth studio album, Too Hood 2 Be Hollywood. The song, which features vocals from fellow American rapper T.I., was produced by Scott Storch.
"Ride" is the second single from Ace Hood's debut album Gutta. It features Trey Songz, and is produced by The Inkredibles. T-Pain wrote the chorus. The video was shot on August 1, 2008.
"Hey Young World" is the third single released from Slick Rick's debut album, The Great Adventures of Slick Rick. It was released in 1989 as the follow-up to Slick Rick's popular "Children's Story" and was both written and produced by Slick Rick himself. "Hey Young World" did not reach the same level of success as "Children's Story", reaching number 42 on the Hot Black Singles chart and number 17 on the Hot Rap Singles chart. The B-side contained the popular song, "Mona Lisa".
"Behind Bars" is the first single released from Slick Rick's third album, Behind Bars. It was released on November 8, 1994. The original version was produced by the legendary producer, Prince Paul, but was scrapped for the album and single in favor of remixes by The Epitome of Scratch and Warren G. The single was released while Rick was still in jail and featured an entirely animated music video for the remix that was produced by Warren G ; the music video was animated and directed by Sash Andranikian. "Behind Bars" became Slick Rick's first and only single to reach the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at 87 on the chart, the song also made it to 63 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and 12 on the Hot Rap Singles.
"Sittin' in My Car" is the second single released from Slick Rick's third album, Behind Bars. It was released on February 14, 1995 and was produced by Vance Wright, with a remix done by Jermaine Dupri and beatboxing done by Doug E. Fresh. The single managed to make it to #56 on the Hot R&B Singles and #11 on the Hot Rap Singles. The song title and chorus references the singer Billy Stewart's single "Sitting in the Park" and also samples the song.
"Ghetto Love" is the second single released from Da Brat's second studio album, Anuthatantrum.
"Just Another Case" is the debut single by American hip hop group Cru. It was released as the lead single from their debut album, Da Dirty 30 (1997). It was produced by the group's producer, Yogi, and featured a verse from Slick Rick, whose song "Children's Story" was sampled. "Just Another Case" found mild success on the Billboard charts, making it to 68 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 8 on the Hot Rap Singles.
"Live Niguz", also known by its censored title "Live!!!" is a song by American hip hop group Onyx. It was released on July 18, 1995 by Def Jam, Rush Associated Labels and JMJ Records as a single from Def Jam's The Show: The Soundtrack and as the first single from Onyx's second album, All We Got Iz Us.
"I Like" is a song by American artist Montell Jordan and Slick Rick that appeared both on Montell's second album, More... and the Nutty Professor soundtrack. Co-produced by Derick "D Man" McElveen and James Earl Jones, "I Like" became a hit in both the US, where it peaked at 28 on the Billboard Hot 100, and the UK, where it peaked at 24 on the UK Singles Chart. "I Like" was also Slick Rick's first single since his release from prison.
