Iulia Jaso (born Iulia Zanoschi) and Delia Wookey (born Delia Zanoschi) (born October 25, 1988, Iași, Romania) are Romanian twin mountaineers known for jointly held mountaineering world records. [1] [2] In May 2022, they became the youngest people in the world to climb the Seven Summits, as well as the Seven Volcanic Summits, [1] thus surpassing the record previously held by Satyarup Siddhanta. [3] [4] [5] [6] Their record is recognized by Guinness World Records. [7]

Early life and education

Born and raised in Iași, Romania, Iulia and Delia Zanoschi are the daughters of Adrian and Gabriela Zanoschi, both high-school mathematics teachers. [8] [9] [10] Both sisters studied at the National College in Iași [11] [12] [13] and completed their higher education with BSc and master's degrees in Paris. [14]

In 2014, they moved to the US to complete their MBA, Iulia at Wharton School and Delia at Harvard Business School. [14] In 2016, Iulia attended the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, while Delia enrolled at Harvard Business School. [15] [16] [17]

Mountaineering

In 2017, the sisters climbed Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. [18] [19] [20] [21] They then undertook the Seven Summits challenge, ascending the highest peaks on each continent. [19] [22] [23] [24]

In May 2021, they summited Mount Everest, becoming the first European twins to do so and the youngest Romanian women at the time. [8] [20] [25] [26] [27] [28] [29] [30]

In January 2022, they ascended the summit of Vinson Massif and became the first Romanian women to complete the Seven Summits. [5] [20] [23] [24] [31]

The Zanoschi sisters summitted Mount Damavand in May 2022, thereby completing successful ascents of both the Seven Summits and the Seven Volcanic Summits, and becoming the first Romanians to do so. [24] [32] [33] [34] They surpassed Satyarup Siddhanta's record as the youngest climbers to complete both the Seven Summits and the Seven Volcanic Summits. [4] [5] [6] Their record is recognized by Guinness World Records. [7]

In 2024, the sisters were awarded "Honorary Citizen of the State of Iași" medals. [35] [36] [37]
