Ivan Charles Buchanan,CBE, [1] JP,was a politician from Saint Kitts and Nevis. [2]
He was born on 28 January 1921 in Sandy Point,St. Kitts. [1] He got teacher training in St. Kitts. He worked as a civil servant for 27 years,and as a primary school teacher and later as public health inspector. He worked also as director for the St. Kitts Nevis Anguilla National Bank. [1]
He was the Speaker of House of Assembly of Saint Kitts and Nevis and Anguilla from 1983 [3] to 1985,and then the Speaker of the National Assembly from 6 February 1985 to 1995. [4] [5] He led the legislature during the coalition of People's Action Movement and Nevis Reformation Party.
He died on 14 January 2019 at the age of 97. [1] One of his granddaughters,Janelle Sarauw,was elected to the legislature of U.S. Virgin Islands in 2016. [6]
Nevis is an island in the Caribbean Sea that forms part of the inner arc of the Leeward Islands chain of the West Indies. The monarchy of Saint Kitts and Nevis is a system of government in which a hereditary monarch is the sovereign and head of state of Saint Kitts and Nevis. The current monarch of Saint Kitts and Nevis,since 8 September 2022,is King Charles III. As sovereign,he is the personal embodiment of the Crown of Saint Kitts and Nevis. Although the person of the sovereign is equally shared with 14 other independent countries within the Commonwealth of Nations,each country's monarchy is separate and legally distinct. As a result,the current monarch is officially titled King of Saint Christopher and Nevis and,in this capacity,he and other members of the royal family undertake public and private functions domestically and abroad as representatives of Saint Kitts and Nevis. However,the King is the only member of the royal family with any constitutional role.

Mark Anthony Graham Brantley is the Premier of Nevis,Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly and former Minister of Foreign Affairs for St Kitts and Nevis. On May 10,2022,Dr Timothy Harris,having lost the support of the elected majority to function as Prime Minister and facing a historic Motion of No Confidence in the National Parliament,decided to dissolve the Parliament and purported to revoke the appointment of more than 50% of his former Cabinet,including Brantley. Brantley previously served as the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly of Saint Kitts and Nevis . He is married and has 2 daughters. Brantley studied law at the University of the West Indies,obtained his Legal Education Certificate of Merit from Norman Manley Law School in Jamaica and also holds a Bachelor of Civil Law from the University of Oxford,St. Catherine College. Prior to entering politics,Brantley worked as an attorney.
Dame Marcella Althea Liburd is a Kittitian politician who is the fifth governor-general of Saint Kitts and Nevis,serving since 2023. Trained as a teacher and then as a barrister and solicitor,Liburd was the first woman to serve as both the Speaker of the National Assembly of Saint Kitts and Nevis and the Governor-General,as well as the first Governor-General appointed by Charles III. She has served in various Ministerial positions including Acting Prime Minister and Chair of the Opposition for the Labour Party. She was the first woman to serve as Chair in the 81-year-old organization’s history.
The primary law governing Saint Kitts and Nevis nationality regulations is the Saint Christopher and Nevis Citizenship Act,which came into force on 28 February 1984.
Janelle K. Sarauw is a Virgin Islander politician and former educator who served as senator in the Legislature of the Virgin Islands from the St. Thomas-St. John District,from 2017 to 2023. Sarauw ran for Lieutenant Governor in the 2022 election.
