Ivari Ilja

Ivari Ilja (born 3 May 1959 in Tallinn [1] ) is an Estonian [2] pianist trained at the Moscow Conservatory under Vera Gornostayeva and Sergei Dorensky best known for his work as an accompanist.

He holds positions as Chairman of the Board of the Estonian Association of Professional Musicians and President of the Estonian Music Council.

Ilja has been teaching piano since 1986 and served as the head of the piano department at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre from 2000 to 2015.

He is the rector of the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre.

The Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre began as a mixed choir of the Estonia Society Musical Department (EMD) on the eve of World War I. The assembly of the Estonia Society created the Tallinn Higher Music School on November 17, 1918. The opening ceremony took place on September 28, 1919. Martin Padar is an Estonian judoka, who has competed in the men's half heavyweight (‍–‍100 kg) and later in the heavyweight (+100 kg) category. A 2009 European champion, he has also competed at two Olympics, the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2012 London Olympics.
