Izzy Fry (born 4 May 2000) is a British track and field athlete and cross country runner. [1]
Fry attended Park House School in Newbury, Berkshire. [2]
A member of Newbury Athletic Club, [3] Fry finished fourth in the 5000m at the 2019 European Athletics U20 Championships in Boras, Sweden in 2019. In March 2020, she reached the number one in the world junior cross country rankings and straddled that with top-10 finishes at the 2019 and 2021 European Cross Country Championships in the age-group category events, winning gold as part of the women's U20 team in Lisbon in 2019. She also finished fourth at the 2020 UK National Championships over 5000m. [4] [2]
Fry became World University Cross Country champion in March 2022, in Aveiro, Portugal. [5] She was also part of a gold medal-winning a British squad in the team event. [6] Later that year, she finished third at the NI International Cross Country event, in Belfast. [7]
Fry's 2023 was severely hampered by a serious foot injury which she received in the spring and missed the entire track season. [8] She was selected for the 2023 European Cross Country Championships in Brussels in December 2023. [9] She finished tenth overall, and won gold as part of the successful British squad which won the team event. [10] [11]
In February 2024, in Boston, Massachusetts, Fry ran a new personal best over 3000 metres, running 8:52.15. [12] The following week she lowered her 5000m personal best to 15:07.76 in Boston. [13]
In May 2024, she was selected to run the 5000 metres for Britain at the 2024 European Athletics Championships in Rome. [14]
Emily Sisson is an American long-distance runner. She set the North American record in the marathon on 9 October 2022, when she ran 2:18:29 to finish second at the Chicago Marathon. Sisson also held the American record in the half marathon from May 2022 until July 2023. She represented the United States in the 10000 metres at the 2017 and 2019 World Athletics Championships, finishing 9th and 10th. In June 2021, she won the 10000m at the 2020 US Olympic Trials and placed 10th in the 10000m final at the 2020 Summer Olympics. In 2024, she placed second in the marathon at the US Olympic Trials, qualifying for the 2024 Summer Olympics.
Jakob Ingebrigtsen is a Norwegian middle- and long-distance runner. Ingebrigtsen is the current world record holder for the indoor 1500 metres and the 2000 metres, and holds the world best time over the two mile distance. Ingebrigtsen is a two-time World champion, winning gold medals in the 5000 metres in 2022 and 2023 and a four-time European champion, winning gold medals in the 1500 m and 5000 m in 2018 and 2022. He also won a gold medal in the 1500 m at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, setting an Olympic and European record. In addition to the 1500 m, Ingebrigtsen holds European records in the mile and 5000 m, and is one of only three men to run a sub-3:30 1500 m, sub-7:30 3000 m and a sub-12:50 5000 m.
Beatrice Chebet is a Kenyan long-distance runner. In 2022, she won the silver medal in the 5000 metres at the World Championships, and became Commonwealth, African and Diamond League champion. Chebet claimed the gold medal for the women's senior race at the 2023 and 2024 World Cross Country Championships. She is also the current world record holder in the 10,000 metres, with a time of 28:54.14, set at the 2024 Prefontaine Classic on 25 May. In setting this record, Chebet became the first woman in history to break 29:00.00 in the 10,000 metres.She is nicknamed the "smiling assassin".
Nicolas Young is an American Long-distance runner who competes for Northern Arizona University. He is a two-time NCAA champion having won both the 3000 m and 5000 m at the 2024 NCAA Indoor Championships. He also holds the collegiate records in the 5000 m (12:57.14) and 10,000 m (26:52.72), both set in 2024.
Charlotte Payne is a British hammer thrower, who won the hammer throw events at the 2022 and 2023 British Athletics Championships, and came second in the under-23s events at the 2022 European Throwing Cup and 2023 European Athletics U23 Championships. Payne is deaf, and holds the world record for a deaf woman in the hammer throw.
