The 2024 European Cross Country Championships was the 30th edition of the cross country running competition for European athletes. It was held on 8 December 2024 in Antalya, Turkey. [1]

Contents

This was the first time Turkey has staged the European Cross Country Championships and Antalya will be the most southerly venue in the 30-year history of the championships. [1]

The European Cross Country Championships is an annual international cross country running competition. Organised by the European Athletic Association, it is the area championships for the region and is held in December each year. The championships was inaugurated in 1994 in Alnwick and the venue for the championships changes each year.

The 2009 European Cross Country Championships was a continental cross country running competition that was held on 13 December 2009 near Dublin city, Fingal in Ireland. The six men's and women's races in the championship programme took place in Santry Demense on a looped course with flat and grassy ground. He won the 1500m at the 2022 Belgian Athletics Championships, and the same event at the 2021 and 2022 Belgian Indoor Athletics Championships. The 2024 World Athletics Cross Country Championships was held in Belgrade, Serbia, on 30 March 2024. It was held in the Park of Friendship, next to the Danube, which was also the site of the 2013 European Championships.

John Heymans is a Belgian long-distance runner. He has won two national titles. He is a member of Royal Excelsior Club Brussels. After finishing his MSc in Bioengineering and Nanotechnology from the KU Leuven in September 2022, he decided to become a professional athlete.

Poppy Tank is a British steeplechaser and long distance runner. She has represented Great Britain at senior level and in 2023, she became the British national champion in the 3000m steeplechase.

María Forero is a Spanish track and field athlete and cross country runner.

Will Barnicoat is a British track and field athlete and cross country runner. He was European U20 cross country champion in 2022, and became European U23 cross country champion in 2023 and 2024.

Abbie Donnelly is a British track and field athlete and cross country runner. She was a bronze medalist in the individual and gold medalist in the team event at the 2023 European Cross Country Championships.She won gold in the team half marathon at the 2024 European Athletics Championships.

Sofia Thøgersen is a Danish middle distance and long distance runner. A multiple-time national champion, and the Danish national record holder over 1500 metres, in 2023 she became the youngest Danish athlete to compete at the World Athletics Championships.

Elise Thorner is a British track and field athlete. She finished second in the 3000m steeplechase at the 2024 British Athletics Championships.
