Tilburg is a city and municipality in the Netherlands, in the southern province of North Brabant. With a population of 222,601, it is the second-largest city or municipality in North Brabant after Eindhoven and the seventh-largest in the Netherlands as a whole.
Willem II, also known as Willem II Tilburg, is a Dutch football club based in Tilburg, Netherlands. They play in the Eerste Divisie, the second tier of Dutch football, following relegation from the Eredivisie in the 2021–22 season. The club was founded on 12 August 1896 as Tilburgia. On 12 January 1898, the club was renamed Willem II after Dutch king William II of the Netherlands (1792–1849), who, as Prince of Orange and commander of the Dutch army, had his military headquarters in Tilburg during the Belgian uprising of 1830, spent much time in the city after becoming king, and died there.
The European Athletic Association is the governing body for athletics in Europe. It is one of the six Area Associations of the world's athletics governing body World Athletics. European Athletics has 51 members and is headquartered in Lausanne.
Lornah Kiplagat is a Dutch professional long-distance runner. She was born in Kabiemit, Rift Valley Province, Kenya and came to the Netherlands in 1999. She gained Dutch citizenship in 2003 and has competed for the Netherlands since. She used to run not only road events but also in cross country and track and field.

Maja Møller Alm is a Danish orienteering and Athletics competitor who has won seven World Championships and two World Games titles. She is especially known for her four gold medals on the sprint distance, where she has won the title four years in a row: 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018. She is also a medalist from the Junior World Championships. Since 2006 she has been coached by Danish national coach Lars Lindstrøm. Alm is remarkable for her dominant running speed, which gives her a great advantage over other competitors at the sprint distance.
The 12th European Cross Country Championships were held at Tilburg in Netherlands on 11 December 2005. Serhiy Lebid won the men's competition for the sixth time and Lornah Kiplagat won the women's race.
The 2011 European Cross Country Championships was the 18th edition of the cross country running competition for European athletes which was held in Velenje, Slovenia on 11 December.
The Eredivisie was, during its existence, the only professional ice hockey league in the Netherlands and the highest level of competition organized by the Nederlandse IJshockey Bond. Formed in 1945 and playing continuously since 1964, the league mainly featured Dutch teams, although in some seasons certain Belgian teams competed. The league featured a mix of Dutch, European and overseas players. The winner of the Eredivisie was crowned the Dutch National Champion and represented the Netherlands in the IIHF Continental Cup. In 2015, with most of its teams facing financial problems and its top team, Tilburg Trappers, joining the German Oberliga, the Eredivise was suspended with the remaining teams joining the BeNe League.
Betsy Saina is a Kenyan-American athlete in long distance running. She was born in Kenya and now competes for the United States.
Thomas Osano is a Kenyan former long-distance runner who competed across track, road, and cross country running disciplines. His greatest individual honour was a 10,000 metres gold medal at the 1991 All-Africa Games. He also shared in a team gold medal with Kenya at the 1993 IAAF World Half Marathon Championships.
Fabienne Königstein is a German Marathon and long-distance runner. Her major achievements by now were the 6th place at the World University Games 2017 over the Halfmarathon distance, the German Marathon Title 2018 and the 11th place at the European Athletics Championships 2018 in the Women's Marathon Competition. She also is a several times medalist in German National Championships.
Natalya Sorokivskaya is a Kazakhstani female former long-distance runner who competed for the Soviet Union and later Kazakhstan. She competed in track, road and cross country running disciplines. She holds the Kazakhstani national records from 3000 metres to the 10K run and also the half marathon record.
Soufiane Bouchikhi is a Belgian long-distance runner. He represented his country in the 5000 metres at the 2017 World Championships narrowly missing the final. At the 2019 World Championships in Doha he made the 10 000m final and finished 13th. In addition, he won the silver medal in the U23 category at the 2012 European Cross Country Championships.
Ruti Aga is an Ethiopian long-distance runner. She won the women's race at the 2019 Tokyo Marathon and secured five other top three finishes at the World Marathon Majors.
In 2020, the foremost competitions in the sport of athletics were the 2020 Summer Olympics held in Tokyo, the 2020 World Athletics Indoor Championships held in Nanjing, China and the 2020 IAAF World Half Marathon Championships held in Gdynia, Poland. All three were rescheduled due to the COVID-19 pandemicm with the 2020 IAAF World Half Marathon Championships being the only event still held in 2020.
Robin Hendrix is a Belgian long-distance runner. He is the Belgian indoor record holder for the 5000 metres.
The 38th European Athletics Indoor Championships will be held from 6 to 9 March 2025 at the Omnisport Apeldoorn arena in Apeldoorn, Netherlands. The multi-use, multi-sport venue can hold a maximum capacity of 5,000 spectators. It will be the third time that the Netherlands will have staged the continent's top indoor competition after Rotterdam 1973 and The Hague 1989. It will be also the third time in a decade that the country will host a major European Athletics event after the outdoor 2016 European Athletics Championships in Amsterdam and 2018 European Cross Country Championships in Tilburg. The four-day competition will feature 13 men's and 13 women's athletics events over three morning and four afternoon sessions.
Poppy Tank is a British steeplechaser and long distance runner. She has represented Great Britain at senior level and in 2023, she became the British national champion in the 3000m steeplechase.
