On 3 March 2018, UWW Europe, which includes 48 nations, accepted applications for the championships. [3] On 13 March, Ukraine and Great Britain announced they would not participate at the championships due to political reasons. [4] [5] However, on 16 April the Ukrainian Wrestling Association overruled their decision. [6]
Angelina Alekseevna Simakova is a retired Russian artistic gymnast. She resides in Obninsk, Russia, and is coached by Irina Kolobova. She is the 2019 Russian national all-around champion and the 2018 Russian national all-around silver medalist. Internationally, she was a member of the Russian teams that won gold at the 2018 European Championships and silver at the 2018 World Championships.
Dauren Khalidovich Kurugliev is a Russian-Greek freestyle wrestler of Lezgin ethnicity. He is the 2019 European Games gold medalist and 3x European champion.
Gadzhimurad Gazigandovich Rashidov is a Russian freestyle wrestler who competes at 65 kilograms. He is the 2019 World Champion and the 2020 and three-time Russian National Champion. 2020 Summer Olympics bronze medalist at 65 kg.

Artur Edikovich Naifonov is a Russian freestyle wrestler, who competes at 86 kilograms. Naifonov is an Olympic Games medalist, World Championship medalist, three-time European Continental champion and a three-time Russian National champion.
Zaurbek Kazbekovich Sidakov is a Russian freestyle wrestler, who competes at 74 kilograms. Sidakov is reigning Olympic champion in the 74 kg and a three-time World Champion, claiming his titles in 2018 and 2019 and 2023.
Anastasia Viktorovna Bratchikova is a Russian female freestyle wrestler who currently competes in the 68 kg weight category. Bratchikova is a three-time National champion with her latest national title being captured in Smolensk in August 2018. Bratchikova is also a two-time European champion, having won gold in Novi Sad in 2017 and in Kaspiysk in 2018.
Uliana Sergeyevna Perebinosova is a Russian artistic gymnast and the 2020 Russian National Champion. She was part of the team that won gold in the team competition at the 2018 European Championships.
Zagir Mukhtarpashaevich Shakhiev is a Russian freestyle wrestler who competes at 65 kilograms. Shakhiev is the 2021 World Champion and European Champion, as well as a two-time Russian National medalist and a Cadet World Champion.
Union of Mixed Martial Arts "MMA" of Russia is an all-Russian public organization, a sports federation engaged in the popularization and development of mixed martial arts as a kind of sport. It is the main regulator for MMA in the Russian Federation. Founded in 2012. In the first year of its existence, the Russian MMA Union held the national mixed martial arts championship in Chekhov, Moscow Oblast, became a permanent member of the World Mixed Martial Arts Association (WMMAA) and held the European mixed martial arts Championship in St. Petersburg under WMMAA auspices. As of 2021, the Russian MMA Union included 80 accredited regional federations in its structure, ensures the holding of the national championships and cups, forms Russian national teams to participate in the World and European championships, represents Russia in the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF), provides refereeing and organizational support for professional MMA tournaments spent in Russia.

The 2024 European Wrestling Championships was held from 12 to 18 February 2024 in Bucharest, Romania. At the 2024 European Championships, in accordance with sanctions imposed following by the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, wrestlers from Russia and Belarus were not permitted to use the name, flag, or anthem of Russia or Belarus. They instead participated as "Individual Neutral Athletes (AIN)", their medals were not included in the official medal table.
