The 2018 European Championships were the first edition of the European Championships. It was a multi-sport event which took place in Berlin, Germany, and Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom (with Edinburgh hosting the diving events and Gleneagles the golf) from 2 to 12 August 2018. Around 1,500 athletes competed at the European Athletics Championships in Berlin, whilst at the same time more than 3,000 took part in the other championships in Glasgow. Each European Championship was organised by the respective federation and host city.

On 1 August, at the "Great Big Opening Party" in Glasgow, a new European Championship Trophy was unveiled, which was awarded to the nation achieving the most gold medals across all seven sports during the Championships. It was presented by Katherine Grainger, Emma Fredh and Angelina Melnikova on behalf of the seven European federations involved in the event. [1] On 12 August, the trophy was presented to the leading nation on the overall table, Russia, in a ceremony in Glasgow.

Each sport maintained its own medal table, [11] but an overall medal table is also maintained, [12] the leader of which won the European Championship trophy. Russia won the inaugural trophy and topped the medal table by gold medals won with 31, whilst co-hosts Great Britain topped the total medals table with 74 medals, 26 of which were gold. A chasing pack consisting of Italy, the Netherlands, co-hosts Germany and France each won over 10 gold medals and 40 medals in total.

All of Europe's major free-to-air broadcasters televised the European Championships in 2018, [13] [14] such as BBC in the United Kingdom, ARD/ZDF in Germany, France Télévisions in France, RAI in Italy and TVE in Spain. Other EBU members who signed up include VRT (Belgium), HRT (Croatia), DR (Denmark), YLE (Finland), RTÉ (Ireland), NOS (Netherlands), NRK (Norway), TVP (Poland), RTP (Portugal), SRG SSR (Switzerland) and SVT (Sweden). The level of coverage was also enhanced by a deal with Eurosport. In total, over 40 EBU members signed agreements as of April 2018. There were discussions with broadcasters in the remaining territories in Europe, plus other global territories like China, Japan and USA. [15]
Glasgow 2018 had five official partners (People Make Glasgow, Scottish Government, Strathmore Water, Spar & Eurovision) and Berlin 2018 had six official partners (Spar, Le Gruyère, Nike, Toyo Tires, Generali & Eurovision) with another tier of official supporters across the two host cities. Overall over 56 companies signed up to support the inaugural event. [15] [16]

The 22nd Central American and Caribbean Games were held November 14–30, 2014 in Veracruz, Mexico. The Games featured 36 sports, with most occurred in Veracruz, but some occurred in Boca del Río, Xalapa, Córdoba, Tuxpan, and Coatzacoalcos
The XVI Bolivarian Games were a multi-sport event held in 2009 in Sucre, Bolivia. The competitions in Sucre took place from 15–26 November. A number of Bolivian cities hosted some of the sporting events, including Cochabamba, Santa Cruz and Tarija. Also, events were held outside of Bolivia, with Guayaquil, Lima, Quito and Salinas hosting a number of competitions. The Games were organized by the Bolivarian Sports Organization (ODEBO).
The IV ALBA Games is a multi-sport event held between 17–30 July 2011 in ten different states of Venezuela. The games are organized by the Bolivarian Alliance for the Americas (ALBA).
The 2014 South American Games was a multi-sport event that took place in Santiago, Chile. It was the 10th edition of the ODESUR South American Games. Santiago hosted this event for the second time, the first being in 1986. Most of the events took place in and around the National Stadium. The games were held between March 7 to 18.
The 23rd Central American and Caribbean Games were held in Barranquilla, Colombia.
The European Championships is a multi-sport tournament which brings together the existing European Championships of some of the continent's leading sports every four years. The inaugural edition in 2018 was staged by the host cities of Berlin, Germany and Glasgow, United Kingdom between 2 and 12 August. The second edition in 2022 took place in Munich, Germany. A host for the third edition has not been confirmed.

This is a chronological summary of the major events of the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, which was postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The first matches in the group stages of the football and softball events was held on 21 July. The opening ceremony was scheduled two days later on 23 July. The last day of competition and the closing ceremony was on 8 August. However, the Games was referred to by its original date in all scheduled events in order to avoid confusion in future years. With the area under a state of emergency because of the pandemic, the Games were held largely behind closed doors with no spectators permitted.
The 14th National Games of China (中华人民共和国第十四届运动会), commonly known as Shaanxi 2021 (陕西2021), was a multi-sports event held throughout Shaanxi from September 15 to 27, 2021. It is projected that the Games attracted around 20,000 athletes who competed in 409 events in 35 sports. This was the first event in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
