The Canoe Sprint European Championships (or European Canoe Sprint Championships) is an international canoeing and kayaking event organized by the European Canoe Association (ECA). It was first held in 1933 in Prague under the auspices of the International Canoe Federation. In 1997, the European Championships were resumed, and now take place annually.
The most titled athlete of the European Championships is Hungarian Katalin Kovács, who has 29 gold medals, 17 silver medals and 2 bronze medals in her record. Among men, the number of wins is led by German Ronald Rauhe, who won the European championships 17 times.

The International Canoe Federation (ICF) is the umbrella organization of all national canoe organizations worldwide. It is headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland, and administers all aspects of canoe sport worldwide. 157 countries are affiliated with the ICF after seven national federations were added at the 2008 ICF Congress in Rome.
The ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships are an international event in canoe racing, one of two top-tier Summer Olympic sport events organized by the International Canoe Federation. They are usually held every non-Olympic year and have officially included paracanoe events since 2010; paracanoe-specific editions of this event are usually held in Summer Paralympic years.
Liam Heath is a British sprint canoeist. He is the most successful British canoeist at the Olympics with a total of four medals; he won a gold medal in the individual 200m kayak sprint event at the 2016 Summer Olympics and a bronze in the 2020 Olympics, as well as a silver in the men's double with Jon Schofield in 2016. and a bronze at the 2012 London Olympics in the K-2 200 with Schofield.
The European Canoe Association (ECA) is the umbrella organization for canoeing sport in Europe. It was founded in Rome, Italy, on December 11, 1993. The organization has 45 member countries. The association was recognized by the International Canoe Federation at the ICF congress in Acapulco in 1994.
The European Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom Championships is an annual international canoeing and kayaking event organized by the European Canoe Association (ECA). The Junior Championships were first held in 1995 and then every two years until 2003. The Under-23 Championships were first held in 2002 as part of the senior championships that year. Since 2004 the junior and U23 age categories are held annually together as part of the same event. Athletes under the age of 18 are eligible for the junior category.

The 2007 European Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom Championships took place in Kraków, Poland from 2 to 5 August 2007 under the auspices of the European Canoe Association (ECA) at the Kraków-Kolna Canoe Slalom Course. It was the 9th edition of the competition for Juniors (U18) and the 5th edition for the Under 23 category. A total of 15 medal events took place. The junior men's C2 team event did not take place.
The 2005 European Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom Championships took place in Kraków, Poland from 18 to 21 August 2005 under the auspices of the European Canoe Association (ECA) at the Kraków-Kolna Canoe Slalom Course. It was the 7th edition of the competition for Juniors (U18) and the 3rd edition for the Under 23 category. A total of 16 medal events took place.
The 2004 European Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom Championships took place in Kraków, Poland from 10 to 12 September 2004 under the auspices of the European Canoe Association (ECA) at the Kraków-Kolna Canoe Slalom Course. It was the 6th edition of the competition for Juniors (U18) and the 2nd edition for the Under 23 category. It was also the first time that the two age categories had a joint European Championships. A total of 12 medal events took place. The team events were held as an open event for both junior and U23 athletes. Countries were allowed to enter two teams in each team event.
The 2020 European Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom Championships took place at the Kraków-Kolna Canoe Slalom Course in Kraków, Poland from 1 to 4 October 2020 under the auspices of the European Canoe Association (ECA). The event was moved from its original date due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was the 22nd edition of the competition for Juniors (U18) and the 18th edition for the Under 23 category. Several leading countries opted out of the event completely.

At the 2019 European Games in Minsk, sixteen medal events in canoe sprint were contested between 25 and 27 June 2019, of which five are Canadian canoe events and eleven are kayak events.
The 2019 Paracanoe European Championships was held in Poznań, Poland, from 21 to 22 May 2019. This event, which is usually part of the Canoe Sprint European Championships, was held separately as the ECA chose not to organise said event because of the European Games.

It was the 23rd edition of the competition for Juniors (U18) and the 19th edition for the Under 23 category. Solkan hosted the championships for the 5th time.
Daniela Cociu, is a Moldovan sprint canoeist. She competed along with Maria Olărașu at the 2020 and 2024 Summer Olympics. She is a 2024 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships silver medalist.
