The 2013 Canoe Sprint European Championships were the 25th edition of the Canoe Sprint European Championships, an international canoe and kayak sprint event organised by the European Canoe Association, and the 15th edition since its revival in 1997. They were held for the first time in Portugal, at the Center for High Performance in Montemor-o-Velho, between 14 and 16 June 2013. As in the previous edition, the competition comprised 26 events, of which 16 were for men and 10 for women.

Canoe sprint is a water sport in which athletes race in specially designed sprint canoes or sprint kayaks on calm water over a short distance. Prior to November 2008, canoe sprint was known as flatwater racing. The term is still in use today but is often used as a hypernym for both canoe marathon and canoe sprint. Similarly, the term 'canoeing' is used to describe both kayaking and canoeing.
The 2011 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships was the thirty-ninth edition of the ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships, that took place between 17 and 21 August 2011 in Szeged, Hungary. The Southern Hungarian city welcomed the world event for the third time, having hosted the championship previously in 1998 and 2006. These championships were awarded initially to Vichy, France, however, the race course on the Allier proved to be inadequate to hold the competition and the French Canoe Federation withdraw from organizing the event, following that Szeged, the original host of the 2013 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships, was moved up to 2011.
Liam Heath is a British sprint canoeist. He is the most successful British canoeist at the Olympics with a total of four medals; he won a gold medal in the individual 200m kayak sprint event at the 2016 Summer Olympics and a bronze in the 2020 Olympics, as well as a silver in the men's double with Jon Schofield in 2016. and a bronze at the 2012 London Olympics in the K-2 200 with Schofield.
Tomáš Ježek is a Czech flatwater canoer who has been competing in canoe marathon on international level since 1994. Competing at many World Championships in marathon he won one silver medal on K1 in Týn nad Vltavou 2008.
Louisa Jane Gurski is a London 2012 Olympic Games finalist who competes in Sprint Kayaker for Great Britain. She was brought up in Walton-on-Thames and started Kayaking at Elmbridge Canoe Club, Weybridge at the age of 10.
Tim Hornsby is a professional sailor, America's Cup sailor, and world champion that currently lives in Halifax, Canada. He competed with American Magic in the 36th America's cup. He has continued on with American magic for the 37th America’s Cup.
Canoeing was contested at the 2015 European Games between 14 and 16 June 2015.
Canoeing competitions at the 2015 Pan American Games surrounding Toronto were held in two disciplines: the sprint, from 11 to 14 July and the slalom, from 18 to 19 July. The slalom competition will be held at the Minden Wild Water Preserve in Minden Hills. The sprint events were staged at the Welland Pan Am Flatwater Centre in Welland.

Andrew Hamilton is a British canoeist based in Nottingham, England. He competed in slalom canoeing C1 from the mid-1990s to the mid-2000s and whitewater racing, single canoe (C1) and double canoe (C2) for Great Britain between 2000 and 2010.

The 2019 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships, the 45th edition of the World Championships, were held in Szeged, Hungary from 21 to 25 August 2019.
The 2019 Paracanoe European Championships was held in Poznań, Poland, from 21 to 22 May 2019. This event, which is usually part of the Canoe Sprint European Championships, was held separately as the ECA chose not to organise said event because of the European Games.

Her team consisting of Jo Brigden-Jones, Shannon Reynolds and Jaime Roberts made the women's K-4 final but failed to win a medal, coming 7th with a time of 1:39.797 over two seconds slower than their best time in the heats.

Canoeing competitions at the 2022 South American Games in Asunción, Paraguay were held between October 11 and 14, 2022 at the Bahía de Asunción – Club Mbiguá and Canal de Piracema.
The canoeing competition at the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games will be held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic at the Centro de Remo y Canotaje Presa el Rincon, from 24 June to 26 June.
