Sambo is a martial art with Soviet origins, an internationally practiced combat sport, and a recognized style of amateur wrestling included by UWW in the World Wrestling Championships along with Greco-Roman wrestling and freestyle wrestling.
United World Wrestling (UWW) is the international governing body for the sport of amateur wrestling; its duties include overseeing wrestling at the World Championships and Olympics. It presides over international competitions for various forms of wrestling, including Greco-Roman, Freestyle, Grappling, as well as others. The flagship event of UWW is the Wrestling World Championships. The UWW was formerly known as FILA, having assumed its current name in September 2014.
Yury Patrikeyev is an Armenian-Russian Greco-Roman wrestler. He is an Olympic and World Championships medalist and four-time European Champion. Patrikeyev has been awarded the Master of Sport of Russia, International Class title.
Enid del Carmen Rivera Velázquez is an American female freestyle wrestler from Puerto Rico. She participated in 2008 FILA Wrestling World Championships in the 55 kg. category.
Mio Nishimaki is a female freestyle wrestler from Japan. She won a gold medal on 2008 FILA Wrestling World Championships in category -63 kg.
Anna Zwirydowska is a Polish freestyle wrestler. She won a bronze medal at the 2008 FILA Wrestling World Championships in the category -55 kg. She committed an anti-doping rule violation during in-competition doping control at the 2008 Women’s World Championships in Tokyo, Japan. As a result, Zwirydowska was disqualified and removed from the classification standings.
