India first participated at the Olympic Games in 1900, with a lone athlete Norman Pritchard winning two medals – both silver – in athletics and became the first Asian nation to win an Olympic medal. The nation first sent a team to the Summer Olympic Games in 1920 and has participated in every Summer Games since then. India has also competed at several Winter Olympic Games beginning in 1964. Indian athletes have won 35 medals, all at the Summer Games. For a period of time, the Indian Men's Field Hockey Team was dominant in Olympic competition, winning eleven medals in twelve Olympics between 1928 and 1980. The run included eight gold medals of which six were won consecutively from 1928 to 1956.
Kendall Duane Cross is an American freestyle wrestler, wrestling coach and Olympic gold medalist. He won the gold medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia, where he wrestled in the 57 kilogram weight class. He defeated Guivi Sissaouri of Canada 5–3 in the final match. Cross also competed at the 1992 Summer Olympics where he placed sixth. He had defeated the eventual winner and the two-time world champion Alejandro Puerto of Cuba in a previous tournament but lost 10–6 in round six of the elimination rounds.
David Vladimirovich Musulbes is a retired Russian wrestler of Georgian origin who competed for Russia and later represented Slovakia.
Rajiv Tomar is an Indian wrestler. He represented India in the men's freestyle 120 kg category at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, but lost to Steve Mocco of United States in qualifications.
Murad Gaidarov, also known as Murad Haidarau, is a Russian-Belarusian wrestler. Gaidarov was disqualified from 2004 Summer Olympics for retaliating after he was defeated at the quarterfinals and assaulted his opponent, Buvaisar Saitiev, off the arena floor. Gaidarov won the bronze medal in men's 74 kg freestyle wrestling at the 2008 Summer Olympics, but after a failed drug test by Soslan Tigiev, he won a silver medal. He has an older brother Gaidar Gaidarov who is second coach of Dagestan wrestling team and the Italian national team.
Narsingh Pancham Yadav is an Indian wrestler. At the 2010 Commonwealth Games, he won the gold medal in the men's freestyle 74 kg category.
Ikhtiyor Navruzov is an Uzbek freestyle wrestler. He competed in the 66 kg event at the 2012 Summer Olympics and lost quarter finals match against India's Sushil Kumar. He is a silver 2015 World Wrestling Championships medalist in the 65 kg, gold medalist of 2018 Bishkek, 2 times silver medalist and 2 bronze medalist of Asian Wrestling Championships.
Bajrang Punia is an Indian freestyle wrestler, who competes in the 65-kg weight category. At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Punia won a bronze medal by defeating Kazakhstan's Daulet Niyazbekov with a 8–0 margin. Punia is the only Indian wrestler to win 4 medals at the World Wrestling Championships.
Haji Aliyev, is an Azerbaijani freestyle wrestler. He competed at the 61 kg division in the 2014 European Wrestling Championships and won the gold medal after beating Bekkhan Goygereyev of Russia.
Nikolay Ivanovich Paslar is an amateur Bulgarian freestyle wrestler, who competed in the men's middleweight category. Considered as one of Bulgaria's top freestyle wrestlers in his decade, Paslar has claimed two career medals in the 69 and 74-kg division at the World Championships, and later represented his nation Bulgaria at the 2004 Summer Olympics. Throughout his sporting career, Paslar trained full time as a member of the wrestling squad for Slavia Sports Club in Sofia under his personal coach Ilian Stefanov.
Sujeet Maan is a retired amateur Indian freestyle wrestler, who competed in the men's middleweight category. He achieved top six finishes in the 74-kg division at the Asian Games, produced a stark tally of four medals at the Asian Wrestling Championships, and also represented his nation India at the 2004 Summer Olympics. Before his sporting career ended in 2006, Maan trained full-time for Guru Hanuman Wrestling Club in his native New Delhi, under his coach and mentor Maha Singhrao.
Vinesh Phogat is an Indian wrestler. She became the first Indian woman wrestler to win a gold at both the Commonwealth and Asian Games. She is the only Indian woman wrestler to win multiple medals at the World Wrestling Championships. Phogat became the first Indian athlete to be nominated for the Laureus World Sports Awards in 2019.
Rajkumar Baisla Gurjar also known as Rajkumar Bansal is an Indian freestyle wrestler. In August 2011, he received the Dhyan Chand Award – India's highest honour for lifetimes Achievements and he also got Yash bharti award (2014), Railways minister award (2013) and Laxman award (2021) by Yogi adityanath. He is the first gurjar to receive this award. Now he is incharge of Kishanganj Railways akhada and Coach of Olympian and international Wrestlers such as Sushil Kumar, Sakshi Malik, Yogeshwar Dutt, Bajrang Punia and Phogat sisters Under Northern Railways Training Camps.He is also sport officer for Northern Railways.
Anita Sheoran is a female wrestler from India. She has won gold medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games along with winning multiple medals at the Asian Wrestling Championships and the Commonwealth Wrestling Championships.
Nachyn Sergeyevich Kuular is a Russian breakdancer and freestyle wrestler who represents Kazakhstan in international circuit.
Takuto Otoguro is a Japanese freestyle wrestler who competes at 65 kilograms. At the 2020 Summer Olympics, Otoguro claimed the gold medal after beating the likes of defending World Champion Gadzhimurad Rashidov and three-time World Champion Haji Aliyev. A Cadet World Champion, Otoguro first broke into the senior scene when he went undefeated (16–0) in 2018, claiming the World Championship and the National Championship at age 19. He then went on to become a two–time Asian Continental Champion.
Ravi Kumar Dahiya, also known as Ravi Kumar or Ravi Dahiya, is an Indian freestyle wrestler who won a silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the 57 kg category. Dahiya is also a bronze medallist from 2019 World Wrestling Championships and a three-time Asian champion. At the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games, he won the gold medal in the men's 57kg freestyle wrestling category in Birmingham, England.
Naib Subedar Deepak Punia, is an Indian freestyle wrestler and Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) in the Indian Army who won a silver medal at the 2019 World Wrestling Championships in the freestyle 86 kg category and secured a place in the 2020 Summer Olympics. He was born in Jhajjar district, Haryana. He is the reigning Commonwealth champion in his weight category. He bagged a gold medal at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games after beating Pakistan's Muhammad Inam in the 86kg final bout.
Morteza Ghiasi Cheka is an Iranian freestyle wrestler who currently competes at 65 kilograms. A 2021 Asian Continental Championships medalist, Ghiasi represented Iran at the 2020 Summer Olympics that were held in 2021.
Ernazar Akmataliev is a Kyrgyzstani wrestler. He won the gold medal in the 70 kg event at the 2021 U23 World Wrestling Championships held in Belgrade, Serbia. He competed in the men's freestyle 65 kg event at the 2020 Summer Olympics, but lost the first match to Bajrang Punia.
