The athletics competitions at the 2018 African Youth Games in Algiers, Algeria was held between 24 and 27 July at the July 5, 1962 Stadium. The competition served as the qualification for the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics which took place in October 2018 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Contents

The competition was dominated by South Africa which took 26 medals in total including 12 golds, followed by Nigeria and Ethiopia.

The 2009 Arab Youth Athletics Championships was the third edition of the international athletics competition for under-18 athletes from Arab countries. Organised by the Arab Athletic Federation, it took place in the Syrian city of Aleppo from 22 to 24 July. A total of thirty-eight events were contested, of which 20 by male and 18 by female athletes. The difference was accounted for by the lack of steeplechase and pole vault events for girls.

2018 African Youth Games

The 3rd African Youth Games took place in Algiers, Algeria from 18 to 28 July 2018. The Games featured approximately 3,300 athletes from 55 African countries who competed in 30 sports. Algiers was awarded the games by Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa in 2014.
