J'entends plus la guitare (also known as I Don't Hear the Guitar Anymore and I Can No Longer Hear the Guitar) is a 1991 French semi-autobiographical drama film written and directed by Philippe Garrel. It was screened in competition at the 48th Venice International Film Festival, in which it won the Silver Lion. [1] The film was given a US release in 2008, to critical acclaim. [2]

Romantic guitar

The early romantic guitar, the guitar of the Classical and Romantic period, shows remarkable consistency from 1790 to 1830. Guitars had six or more single courses of strings while the Baroque guitar usually had five double courses. The romantic guitar eventually led to Antonio de Torres Jurado's fan-braced Spanish guitars, the immediate precursors of the modern classical guitar.

The 17th César Awards ceremony, presented by the Académie des Arts et Techniques du Cinéma, honoured the best French films of 1991 and took place on 22 February 1992 at the Palais des Congrès in Paris. The ceremony was chaired by Michèle Morgan and hosted by Frédéric Mitterrand. Tous les matins du monde won the award for Best Film.

Lyre-guitar Guitar shaped to look like a lyre

A musical instrument of the chordophone family, the lyre-guitar was a type of guitar shaped to look like a lyre, popular as a fad-instrument in the late 1800s. It had six single courses, with a fretboard located between two curved arms recalling the shape of the ancient Greek kithara. It was tuned and played like the conventional guitar.

The Secret Son is a 1979 French film written and directed by Philippe Garrel. It stars Anne Wiazemsky as Elie and Henri de Maublanc as Jean-Baptiste, a filmmaker. The original film score was composed by Faton Cahen who reprised his collaboration with Garrel on Liberté, la nuit (1983), Paris vu par… 20 ans après (1984) and J'entends plus la guitare (1991). It was premiered in Paris in 1979 and received wider release in 1982. In October 2017, it was released in cinemas in the United States. The film won Prix Jean Vigo in 1982.
