JB Law College, its full name Jnanadabhiram Barooah Law College, is a law school located in Guwahati, Assam, India. It was established in 1969 and the college was named after the name of Jnanadabihram Barooah, a well known personality in the legal field of Assam. The college also offers a five-year integrated course, which is a combination of a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree and LLB degree The postgraduate course offered is a Master of Laws (LLM) program, which is a two-year full-time course. The JB Law College is recognized by Bar Council of India [2] and it also got a status of ' Section 2(f) of UGC Act, 1956 ' from University Grants Commission. [3] The Law College is affiliated to Gauhati University. [4]

History

The college was established in 1969 to improve legal education in the region. The first meeting to discuss the need for a law college in Guwahati was held on July 10, 1968. The college was formally established on June 25, 1969, with the written approval of Gauhati University. The college was named after Jnanadabhiram Barooah, the first principal of Assam's first Law College, The Government Earle Law College, which was established in 1914. Late Golap Chandra Choudhury was the first principal of JBLC, serving from 1969 to 1972.

Course Structure

The College follows the course structure prescribed by the Gauhati University and it may be procured from the office.

5 Year Integrated B.A. LL.B. Course :-

An applicant who has successfully completed Senior Secondary School (+2) course or equivalent from a recognised University of India or outside or from a Senior Secondary Board or equivalent, constituted or recognised by the Union or by the State Government from a foreign country recognised by the Government of that country with atleast 45 % ( 40% for SC,ST and OBC applicants) in aggregate may apply for and be admitted into the program to obtain the integrated degree in law with B.A. as the first degree.

3 Year LL.B. Course :-

An applicant who has graduated in any discipline of knowledge from a University established by an Act of Parliament or by a State Legislature or an equivalent national institution recognised as a Deemed to be University or foreign university recognised as equivalent to the statusof an Indian University by an authority competent to declare equivalence, with atleast 45% ( 40% for SC,ST and OBC applicants), may apply for a three year degree program in law leading to conferment of LL.B. degree on successful completion of regular program.

2 Year LL.M. Course :-

An applicant who has a degree in law from a University established by an Act of Parliament or by a State Legislature or an equivalent National Institution recognised as a Deemed to be University or foreign university recognised as equivalent to the status of an Indian University by an authority competent to declareequivalence, with atleast 50% (45% for SC,ST and OBC applicants), may apply for a two years master degree program in law leading to conferment of LL.M. degree on successful completion of regular program.

Bagadhar Brahma Kishan College is located at Jalahghat in the newly formed district of Baksa under BTAD, Assam. It was founded following a public initiative in 1978 to provide higher education to the underprivileged boys and girls of the Jalah block, which is situated in the north-eastern corner of the Baksa district near the Bhutan border, and populated mostly by scheduled tribes and other native communities. It was originally called Kishan College. In 1982, it was renamed to Bagadhar Brahma Kishan College after its benefactor who is an uneducated tribal social worker. Jalah is a low literacy neighborhood, especially in female literacy.

University School of Law & Legal Studies is one of the constituent schools of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University. Established in 2001, it is an institution dedicated to law and was the first state government law school in Delhi. It is constantly rated in the top 15 government law schools in India offering a 5-year course. It is also rated in the top five law schools in Delhi NCR. The acceptance rate of USLLS is incredibly low, given the fewer seats and large number of applicants. USLLS was also ranked 12 in the National Institutional Ranking Framework, Ministry of Education, Government of India.

Assam Combined Entrance Examination (Assam-CEE) is a state-government controlled centralized entrance examination, conducted by the Assam Science and Technology University for admission into the seven premier government engineering colleges in Assam. The test is taken after the 12th grade for admission to graduation courses. The exam can be taken by those who studied Pure Science stream in plus two level with the specific subjects tested in the examination, which are Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics. Every year approximately 25,000 - 40,000 students take the examination, and it is increasing every year. Students of both Assam Higher Secondary Education Council and the Central Board of Secondary Education board take the test. Formerly the examination was conducted by Dibrugarh University and since 2018 it is conducted by Assam Science & Technology University. It was previously known as the Assam Joint Admission Test (Assam-JAT) until the year 2012 and comprised both engineering and medical entrance examinations. Since then, the medical section of JAT was known as Assam Medical Entrance Examination (Assam-MEE).

Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Management and Technology, Tezpur (GIMT-Tezpur) is a private institute offering degree level technical courses in the State of Assam is a Private college established by Shrimanta Shankar Academy (SSA) Society and Government of Assam, India. Asu Dev(আশু দেব), born as Ashutosh Deb Dhubri, Assam, India was a pioneer artist of Assam. He was a painter, sculptor and an Art Educator. During his lifetime he had worked as a Textile Designer in several Cotton Mills in Jessore and Khulna in Bangladesh, Ahmedabad, Surat, Kolkata, at the Janata College Titabor Assam and Assam Textile Institute Guwahati, Assam and at Weavers Training Centre in Dimapur Nagaland in the later part of his life. His distinguished style of painting, where he had experimented using fine and minute dots often like modern pixels, which was often addressed by art critics as pointillism. Asu Dev was a self taught artist who created his artworks from minute observation of the Nature and the working class, and his innate exposure to Srimanta Sankardeva the 15th–16th century Assamese saint-scholar, poet, playwright, artist and social-religious reformer. The miniature paintings from the Chitra Bhagawata and the traditional folk arts and culture of the region, becoming the prime subjects of his paintings. During his career spanning about fifty years of Artistic career dating to the 1930s, he had created around 180 Art works, mostly paintings, oil on canvas, water colour tempara, textile designs and motifs, illustrations, sketches, drawings and a few sculptures. In 1952, Asu Dev was among the first artists to hold, one man show in Assam.
