Jack Semple is a Canadian blues singer and guitarist from Regina, Saskatchewan. [1] [2] Semple was the lead guitarist for The Lincolns for two years; he performs as a solo artist and with The Jack Semple Band, throughout Canada and in the United States. [3]

Early life

Semple grew up on a farm north of Regina, Saskatchewan. He learned to play guitar, and earned money as a teenager giving guitar lessons.

Career

Semple started his musical career playing with various Regina-based bands. He moved to Toronto in the late 1980s to become the lead guitarist of The Lincolns, a funk and rhythm and blues band. [4] He left the band after about two years and returned to Regina to pursue a solo career and to spend more time with his family. [5]

After his move back to Regina, Semple contributed to television and music scores and appeared in the title role of Guitarman, a 1994 television movie. Semple also commenced a solo recording career that has resulted in the release of eight albums. In 1992, Semple won the Canada-wide MuchMusic "Guitar Wars" contest.

Semple was twice nominated, in 1999 and 2000, for a Gemini Award for his soundtrack work on the television series Incredible Story Studio.

In 2016 Semple was presented with an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree by the University of Regina. [6] That year he performed as part of the group True Jazz Pluckers, in concert with the Regina Symphony Orchestra. [7]

Semple continues to perform with The Jack Semple Band, including a concert at the Park Theatre in Winnipeg in 2017. [3]

Randolph Charles Bachman, is a Canadian musician, lead guitarist, songwriter and a founding member of classic rock bnad The Guess Who and hard rock band Bachman–Turner Overdrive. Guitar solo

A guitar solo is a melodic passage, instrumental section, or entire piece of music written for a classical guitar, electric guitar or an acoustic guitar. In the 20th and 21st century traditional music and popular music such as blues, swing, jazz, jazz fusion, rock and metal guitar solos often contain virtuoso techniques and varying degrees of improvisation. Guitar solos on classical guitar, which are typically written in musical notation, are also used in classical music forms such as chamber music and concertos.

Leonard Harold Breau was an American guitarist and music educator. Breau blended many styles of music, including jazz, country, classical, and flamenco. Inspired by country guitarists like Chet Atkins, Breau used fingerstyle techniques not often used in jazz guitar. By using a seven-string guitar and approaching the guitar like a piano, he opened up possibilities for the instrument.

Harry Manx Manx-Canadian musician

Harry Manx is a Canadian musician who blends blues, folk music, and Hindustani classical music. His official website describes his music as being a "blend Indian folk melodies with slide guitar blues, add a sprinkle of gospel and some compelling grooves and you'll get Manx's unique "mysticssippi" flavour." Manx plays the slide guitar, harmonica, six-string banjo, mohan veena and Ellis stomp box. He studied for five years in India with Vishwa Mohan Bhatt. Bhatt is the inventor of the 20-stringed mohan veena, which has become Manx's signature instrument. He has released twelve albums in twelve years, and has his own record label Dog My Cats Records. He has received much recognition and many awards, including: seven Maple Blues Awards, six Juno nominations, the Canadian Folk Music Award in 2005 for Best Solo Artist, and CBC Radio’s "Great Canadian Blues Award" in 2007.

Streetheart is a Canadian rock band, originally from Regina, Saskatchewan but now based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Del Barber Canadian musician

Del Barber is a Canadian independent folk, folk rock, Americana, and alternative country singer-songwriter, musician, and record producer. Barber has been nominated for and won a number of awards including a being nominated for a 2011 Juno Award for Love Songs of the Last Twenty in the category of Roots & Traditional Album of the Year - Solo. Later in 2011 he won two Western Canadian Music Awards for Independent Album of the Year and Roots Solo Recording of the Year. In 2012, Barber was nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award in the category of Solo Artist of the Year. In 2013, he once again won the Roots Solo Recording of the Year for Headwaters at the Western Canadian Music Awards.

The Sheepdogs Canadian rock band

The Sheepdogs are a Canadian mainstream rock band formed in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in 2006. The group consists of lead singer and guitarist Ewan Currie, lead guitarist Jimmy Bowskill, bass guitarist Ryan Gullen, drummer Sam Corbett, and Shamus Currie, brother of Ewan, playing trombone, keyboards, tambourine, and electric guitar. The Sheepdogs became the first unsigned band to make the cover of Rolling Stone in 2011 and have since grown to popularity in Canada and the United States.

Jack de Keyzer is a British-born Canadian blues guitarist, vocalist, songwriter and producer. He has twice won the Juno Award, Canada's highest musical honour, and seven times received Maple Blues Awards, including for Blues Album of the Year in 2000 and the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001. Real Blues Magazine crowned him Live Act Of The Year in 2001, and has twice named him Guitarist of the Year.

Bill Johnson (blues musician) Canadian musician (21st century)

Bill Johnson is a Canadian blues guitarist, singer-songwriter, and music educator. After a long career as a sideman and guitarist, in the 1990s he began touring with The Bill Johnson Band. They released their second album, Live, in 2006, which led to Johnson being nominated for Best Guitarist at the Maple Blues Awards. He self-released his third solo album, Still Blue, in 2010, which was nominated for Blues Album of the Year at the Juno Awards of 2012. Johnson continues to tour, and has hosted blues workshops throughout Canada.

Big Dave McLean is a Canadian blues guitarist, harmonicist, singer and songwriter. A veteran performer, his work has had an influence on many western Canadian blues musicians, including Colin James and Wide Mouth Mason. Notable McLean songs include "She's Got the Stuff", "Kanadiana", "Up On Waverly", and "St. Mary At Main".
