Jackpot & Black Cat, known informally as Mary Jane & Black Cat (vol. 2), is an American comic book series written by Celeste Bronfman and drawn by Emilio Laiso and Giada Belviso, starring the popular Spider-Man love interests Felicia Hardy / Black Cat and Mary Jane Watson / Jackpot. Initially published as the one-shot Jackpot, a full series was ordered to publication by Marvel Comics in December 2023 as a relaunch of Mary Jane & Black Cat (2022–2023) by Jed MacKay, with all five issues serving as a tie-in to the event series Gang War . [3] [4] [5] The series revolves around Mary Jane, dealing with her newfound superhero identity of Jackpot, as she comes to the aid of Felicia after the Black Cat is blackmailed into committing a public crime spree, before Mary Jane finds herself being blackmailed herself. [6] [7] [8]
The series received generally positive reviews from comic critics, [9] [10] [11] though its depiction of Mary Jane's and Felicia's prior relationships with Spider-Man received some criticism. [12] The series was followed by the ongoing series All-New Venom in December 2024, starring Mary Jane and written by Al Ewing, and a new Black Cat series in August 2025, written by G. Willow Wilson. While no new issues have been published since 2024, Marvel still considers Jackpot & Black Cat an ongoing series, [13] with a tentative Venom & Black Cat to follow.
As a gang war between supervillains rages around New York City, Mary Jane Watson, embracing her newfound superhero identity as the third Jackpot, comes to the aid of her best friend and fellow Spider-Man love interest Felicia Hardy, after the notorious bisexual Black Cat is blackmailed into embarking on a public crime spree around the war-torn cityscape by her ex-girlfriend Amelia Morrow, making use of the popular phone app Obscura, who also uses the app to force Mary Jane to steal the necessary bank codes to rob the Owl and frame her old boss for the theft.
