Jackson Nelson (born 15 March 1996) is an Australian rules footballer who currently plays for Old Geelong in the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA). He previously played for the West Coast Eagles in the Australian Football League (AFL) from 2015 until 2022, and then served as captain of West Coast's reserves team in the West Australian Football League (WAFL) from 2023 until the end of the 2024 season.

Career

Junior career

Nelson played junior football for St Mary's. [1] He later represented the Geelong Falcons in the TAC Cup, where he played 12 matches while averaging 20 disposals. In 2014, he played for Vic Country at the AFL Under 18 Championships, averaging four tackles and 12 disposals in six matches. Nelson was drafted by West Coast with pick 51 in the 2014 national draft. AFL career

Nelson made his AFL debut in the opening round of the 2015 AFL season [3] after impressing coach Adam Simpson during the NAB Challenge. [4] He played 11 games for West Coast in 2015 [5] and nine with West Australian Football League (WAFL) affiliate East Perth. [6]

Nelson played the first four rounds of the 2016 AFL season before being dropped to the WAFL. He responded with a strong performance against Swan Districts, playing a midfield role rather than defence. He amassed 29 touches, six tackles, seven marks and six inside-50s. [7] Nelson finished the year with eight matches in the AFL [5] and the WAFL. [6]

He strung five matches together at the start of the 2017 AFL season, before breaking his wrist in the second quarter of a loss to Hawthorn. [8] Despite the injury, Nelson recorded five tackles and 17 possessions after carrying on the match. [8] He missed three weeks of football, although he continued running in training, and returned with a 15-disposal, one-goal effort for East Perth. [9] In July, Nelson extended his contract by two years (until 2019). [10] He played 13 AFL matches [5] and two WAFL matches [6] for the year, polling one vote in East Perth's best and fairest. [11]

In 2018, Nelson played 10 AFL matches [5] but missed the grand final. [12] He played nine games in the WAFL, [6] including a match against Perth in which he was reported for striking Cody Ninyette. Nelson received a one-match suspension. [13]

At the end of the 2022 season, Nelson was delisted by the Eagles. [14]

Post-AFL career

Despite his AFL delisting, Nelson remained at West Coast and signed with the club's reserves team in the WAFL for the 2023 season, becoming the team's captain. [15] At the end of the 2024 WAFL season, he left the Eagles and returned to Victoria, where he signed with Old Geelong in the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA). [16] [17]

From Perth, Western Australia, Nicoski first played for Subiaco in the West Australian Football League (WAFL), before being recruited by West Coast in the 2003 Rookie Draft. William John Schofield is an Australian rules footballer who formerly played for the West Coast Eagles in the Australian Football League (AFL). At 196 centimetres tall and weighing 92 kilograms (203 lb), he is a versatile defender who has played key-position and half-back roles throughout his career. West Coast drafted him from the Geelong Falcons with pick 50 in the 2006 national draft, and debuted in round 17 of the 2007 AFL season. Schofield has played in two AFL Grand Finals: a loss in 2015 and a victory in 2018. He achieved life membership at West Coast in 2016 after playing 150 games for the club. He retired following the 2020 season.

Ryan Edwin Turnbull is a former Australian rules footballer who represented the West Coast Eagles in the Australian Football League (AFL). Turnbull was a member of the Eagles' 1994 premiership side, and was the club's first-choice ruckman for much of the 1990s. He also played with the Claremont and East Perth Football Clubs in the West Australian Football League (WAFL), and was awarded the Sandover Medal in 2001 as the best player in the competition, as well as winning the Simpson Medal in 2001 and 2002 as the best player in the league's grand final. In State of Origin football, Turnbull represented Western Australia in five matches between 1992 and 1999, and captained a Western Australian representative team in 2003.

Mitchell Brown is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the West Coast Eagles in the Australian Football League (AFL). Originally from Ballarat, Victoria, he played under-18 football for the North Ballarat Rebels in the TAC Cup before being recruited by West Coast with the 16th pick overall in the 2006 National Draft. He made his debut for West Coast in round one of the 2007 season, and played a total of 94 games for the club, alternating between defence and the forward line. Brown's career has been interrupted by injuries, causing him to miss the entire 2008 season and 2015 season, as well as significant parts of the 2010 and 2011 seasons.

Jordan Jones is an Australian rules footballer previously listed with the Williamstown Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL) for season 2017-2018 and also previously listed with West Perth Football Club in the West Australian Football League (WAFL) from 2012-2016. He previously played for the West Coast Eagles in the Australian Football League (AFL). Jones was selected at pick 52 in the 2008 AFL Draft with West Coast's 4th round selection. He made his debut for the Eagles at the end of the 2010 season, playing two games, before being de-listed at the end of the 2011 season.
