Jafreen Shaik Jafreen (born 7 September 1997) is a deaf Indian tennis player. [1] She represented India at the Deaflympics in 2013 and 2017. [2] She claimed a bronze medal in the mixed doubles at the 2017 Summer Deaflympics partnering with Prithvi Sekhar. [3] [4] [5]

Career

Jafreen started playing tennis when she was just eight years old. She went on to become a formidable tennis player despite being deaf, after being noticed by India's best female tennis player, Sania Mirza, and gaining assistance from her, [6] [7] receiving training at the Sania Mirza Tennis Academy which is located in Hyderabad. [8] [9]

She went on to represent India at the 2013 Summer Deaflympics which was also her first Deaflympic appearance. As in the as of Prithvi Sekhar, she did not win a medal in her debut Deaflympic event. She was chosen to compete for India at the 2017 Summer Deaflympics as India sent a delegation consisting of 46 participants for the multi-sport event, the largest number of athletes sent by India to a single Summer Deaflympics. [10] Jafreen Shaik along with Prithvi Sekhar won a historical bronze medal in the mixed doubles at the 2017 Summer Deaflympics, marking India's first ever Deaflympic medal in tennis. [11] [12]

He paired-up with and Sania Mirza for mixed doubles and won silver medal at the same event. He was featured as ITF player of April 2011. He won the national singles title for the fourth time by winning the Men's final of Fenesta Open tennis Championship on October 8, 2016

Prithvi Sekhar is an Indian male deaf tennis player. He represented India at the Deaflympics in 2013 and 2017. He won a bronze medal in the mixed doubles at the 2017 Summer Deaflympics partnering with Jafreen Shaik. He is also currently employed in the Integrated Coach Factory in Chennai.

Mario Kargl is an Austrian male professional tennis player. He was a former world no. 1 deaf tennis player and a former world champion at the Deaf tennis Championship in 2011. He has represented Austria at the Deaflympics in 2005, 2009, 2013 and 2017. He has clinched a medal haul of 4 bronze medals in his Deaflympic career after making his debut at the multi-sport event at the 2005 Summer Deaflympics at the age of 19.

Diksha Dagar is an Indian professional golfer who is also hearing-impaired. She became the leading amateur ladies golfer in India from November 2015. Diksha Dagar represented India at the 2017 Summer Deaflympics where golf was included in the Summer Deaflympics for the very first time and competed in the women's individual golf event securing a silver medal. Diksha also qualified to represent India at the 2018 Asian Games. She is also considered one of the emerging amateur golfers in India. In 2019, she became only the second Indian female golfer after Aditi Ashok to win the Ladies European Tour and became the youngest Indian woman to do so at the age of 18.

Sonu Anand Sharma is a former Indian deaf badminton player. She has represented India at the Deaflympics twice in 1997 and in 2009. She is married to Mr. Somesh Sharma, who is a national level cricketer and having two kids Somya Sharma and Saksham Sharma

Vidisha Baliyan is a motivational speaker, beauty pageant winner, retired tennis player, and founder of the Spandan Welfare Society. She represented India at the 2017 Summer Deaflympics and also represented India at the 2019 Miss & Mister Deaf World contest. On 19 July 2019, she won the Miss Deaf World Contest and became the first ever Indian to be crowned as a Miss Deaf World.
