Jagjit Chuhan (born 1955) is an Indian-British artist, art curator and art lecturer. She is Professor of International Art at Liverpool John Moores University.

Life

Jagjit Chuhan was born in 1955 in Punjab, India. She trained at the Slade School of Fine Art from 1973 to 1977. [1]

Chuhan became Reader in Eclecticism in Art, and chair of the Centre for Art International Research (CAIR), at Liverpool John Moores University. In 1999 she collaborated with Laura Arison on 'an intimate mosaic' at the Senate House of the University of Liverpool. She also co-curated 'Lines of Desire', a drawing exhibition which toured internationally in 1999. [1]

Manchester Art Gallery, formerly Manchester City Art Gallery, is a publicly owned art museum on Mosley Street in Manchester city centre, England. Both of Barry's buildings are listed. The building that links them was designed by Hopkins Architects following an architectural design competition managed by RIBA Competitions. Sonia Dawn Boyce, is a British Afro-Caribbean artist and educator, living and working in London. She is a Professor of Black Art and Design at University of the Arts London. Boyce's research interests explore art as a social practice and the critical and contextual debates that arise from this area of study. Boyce has been closely collaborating with other artists since 1990 with a focus on collaborative work, frequently involving improvisation and unplanned performative actions on the part of her collaborators. Boyce's work involves a variety of media, such as drawing, print, photography, video, and sound. Her art explores "the relationship between sound and memory, the dynamics of space, and incorporating the spectator". To date, Boyce has taught Fine Art studio practice for more than 30 years in several art colleges across the UK.

Euan Ernest Richard Uglow was a British painter. He is best known for his nude and still life paintings, such as German Girl and Skull.

Naive John is a British artist and figurative painter. His work shows attention to detail with subjects that combine elements from popular culture alongside the mythic and mundane. He has also in the past been involved in the Stuckism art movement.

Eileen Cooper is a British artist, known primarily as a painter and printmaker.

Rita Donagh is a British artist, known for her realistic paintings and painstaking draughtsmanship.

Frances Aviva Blane, is an English abstract painter who works in the Expressionist tradition. Her subject matter is the disintegration of paint and personality. Blane also draws. However, whereas her paintings are mainly non-referential, the drawings are often of heads, although, as in her paintings, the "heads" are deconstructed which echo her words "broken-up paint, broken-up heads". In 2014, her drawings were shown in an exhibition entitled Deconstruct at De Queeste Kunstkamers, Belgium. She has exhibited in Britain, Europe, Australia and Japan.

Claudette Elaine Johnson is a British visual artist. She is known for her large-scale drawings of Black women and her involvement with the BLK Art Group. She was described by Modern Art Oxford as "one of the most accomplished figurative artists working in Britain today".

Paula MacArthur is an English artist. MacArthur was joint first prize winner in 1989 of the ‘John Player Portrait Award’ at the National Portrait Gallery, London with Tai-Shan Schierenberg. In 1993 she graduated from the Royal Academy of Arts where she was awarded the ‘Royal Academy Schools Prize for Painting’, that same year she was a prize winner of ‘Liverpool John Moores 18’. Her work is held in numerous collections including The National Portrait Gallery, London the collection of Baron and Baroness von Oppenheim and The Priseman Seabrook Collection.

Jason Brooks is a British painter and sculptor. He studied at Goldsmiths College before completing his BA at the Cheltenham & Gloucester College of Art & Design. Jason spent some time in the British School of Rome in 1990, then going on to receive his MA from the Chelsea College of Art & Design, London in 1992. He debuted among the YBAs in the 1990s with his black and white portraits. He won the NatWest art prize in 1999. Jason judged the NPG Portrait Prize, John Moores Prize and the Jerwood Prize and has gone on to exhibit globally since then. His work is held in private and public collections all around the world, including the National Portrait Gallery Collection, London. A major overview of the artist’s work entitled Perpetual Orgy was published in 2015 to coincide with his solo show, 'Origins', at Marlborough London.
