Jakarta Arts Council Novel Competition (in Indonesia: Sayembara Novel Dewan Kesenian Jakarta) is a biennial novel competition held by Jakarta Arts Council in Indonesia. It was first known as the 'Romance Writing Competition' and was discontinued in 1980 due to the decline in the quality of submissions according to the Abdul Hadi WM, the Chairman of the Jakarta Arts Council Literary Committee at the time. It was changed to a literary prize award in 1981–1984, but no literary or novel competitions were held between 1984 and 1996. The novel competition was held again in 1997-1998 and 2003 and 2006 before being regularly held every two years from 2016 on. [1]
The competition is considered prestigious, with first prize of twenty million rupiah (approximately US$2,000).

He held strong anti-leftist views and was seen by critics as aligned with military and pro-US forces that were opposed to Sukarno’s non-aligned policies, a charge that he himself denied.

In 2016, she won the LiBeraturpreis for the German translation of her debut novel, Amba/The Question of Red. In 2018, the movie adaptation of her second novel, Aruna dan Lidahnya, won two prizes at the Festival Film Indonesia. In 2020, her third novel, Fall Baby, won the Singapore Book Award for Best Literary Work. She also writes widely on culture and politics including for the Jakarta Post and the Indonesian newsmagazine Tempo, as well as international publications such as South China Morning Post and the Guardian.

The complex is built on a 9-hectare land area, which was previously a zoo. TIM is named after Ismail Marzuki, one of Indonesia's most influential composers.
Saman is an Indonesian novel by Ayu Utami published in 1998. It is Utami's first novel, and depicts the lives of four sexually-liberated female friends, and a former Catholic priest, Saman, for whom the book is named. Written in seven to eight months while Utami was unemployed, Saman sold over 100,000 copies and ignited a new literary movement known as sastra wangi that opened the doors to an influx of sexually-themed literary works by young Indonesian women.

He joined the International Writing Program at Iowa University, United States, in 1977. He won an award from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism (Indonesia).

Jakarta International Literary Festival or JILF is an annual literary festival held at Jakarta in Indonesia. The goal of the festival is to promote Indonesian literature in international literary platforms. The first literary festival was taken place at the Taman Ismail Marzuki, which was initiated by Jakarta Arts Council. The Jakarta Arts Council is an organization founded by Indonesian artists, which had been officially stated by then Governor of Jakarta, Ali Sadikin, on June 17, 1969.
