Jake Allston (born 1986) is an American sound designer.

Career

Allston was born in Glens Falls, New York and started his professional career designing sound effects for animated television shows at Advantage Audio in 2006. Soon thereafter, he also edited audio for reality television at Max Post (Original Productions) in 2008 on various series including Deadliest Catch and Ice Road Truckers .

On August 30, 2009, Jake received an Emmy Award [1] [2] [3] [4] for his contributions as supervising sound editor on Nickelodeon's Tak and the Power of Juju . According to a representative of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in New York, "Allston's achievement at such a young age is remarkable." [5]

He began teaching Advanced Audio Post-Production at the Los Angeles Film School in 2015.

In 2017, Jake became senior cinematic sound designer for Sony PlayStation. His credits include God of War , Spider-Man , and Death Stranding . From 2018-2020, the accolades were substantial for the PS4 titles at various award ceremonies including the D.I.C.E. Awards, BAFTA Game Awards, NAVGTR Awards, and MPSE Awards.

Her works on films, Bruce Almighty (2003), Spider-Man 2 (2004), Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005), The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009), Tangled (2010), Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011), 300: Rise of an Empire (2014), X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014), Wild (2014), The Maze Runner (2014–15), Deadpool (2016), and critically acclaimed musical-drama La La Land, for which she received two Academy Award nominations. With her nomination for the Academy Award for Best Sound Editing, she and her sound editing partner for the film Mildred Iatrou Morgan became the first female team to be nominated in the category.

Donald Sylvester is an American sound editor who has worked on over 100 films. He is best known for his work with James Mangold on the films Ford v Ferrari (2019), Logan (2017), 3:10 to Yuma (2007), and Walk the Line (2005). Sylvester won the Academy Award for Best Sound Editing at the 92nd Academy Awards for Ford v Ferrari and BAFTA Award for Best Sound at the 59th British Academy Film Awards for Walk the Line. He has been a member of BAFTA since 2007.

The D.I.C.E. Award for Outstanding Achievement in Audio Design is an award presented annually by the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences during the D.I.C.E. Awards. This award is "presented to the individual or team whose work represents the highest level of achievement in creating a unified audio experience. The quality of the individual sound effects, voice over, music, technology, and other audio elements will be considered in addition to the overall audio mix of the title". Creative/technical Academy members with expertise as a game designer, producer, audio designer, or musician are qualified to vote for this award.

The D.I.C.E. Award for Outstanding Achievement in Original Music Composition is an award presented annually by the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences during the D.I.C.E. Awards. This award is "presented to the individual or team whose work represents the highest level of achievement in original musical composition for an interactive title. Both the quality of the score and the integration of the score into the title will be considered when determining the recipient of the award". Creative/technical Academy members with expertise as an audio designer or musician are qualified to vote for this award.

The D.I.C.E. Award for Outstanding Achievement in Character is an award presented annually by the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences during the D.I.C.E. Awards. This award is "presented to the individual or team whose work has furthered the interactive experience through the creation of a memorable character within an interactive title. Outstanding character takes into consideration the marriage of voice acting and performance, character design and execution, and writing". All creative/technical members of the Academy are qualified to vote in this category, regardless of their field of expertise. There were originally separate awards for female and male characters, but eventually merged into one category at the 11th Annual Interactive Achievement Awards in 2008.
