Jakob Kindberg (born 7 February 1994) is a Swedish footballer who currently plays as a goalkeeper for Kalmar FF. [1]
Kindberg hails from Örebro where his parents were both employed by Örebro Teater . He grew up in the club IK Sturehov, and started his senior career there, his first appearance coming at the age of 15. While playing as an amateur footballer, Kindberg tried jobs such as teacher, mover, campground host and lifeguard. Sturehov's team won multiple promotions [2] and in 2014 Kindberg played 10 games in Division 3 (the fifth tier) before continuing in IFK Kumla from 2015. With Kumla, he spent 2016 and 2017 in Division 2 before moving one tier further up to Karlslunds IF FK in 2018. [3]
Ahead of the 2021 season, he changed clubs in Örebro, moving to Örebro Syrianska IF. [4] Halfway through the season, Expressen touted him as the second best goalkeeper in Ettan Norra, behind Jonas Olsson. [5]
Kindberg was chosen to replace Lucas Hägg-Johansson in Kalmar FF ahead of the 2022 Allsvenskan season. [6] He made his Allsvenskan debut on 9 October as a substitute. [7] [8] Kindberg did not become first-choice goalkeeper, however, and was rumoured to join Degerfors IF or Örebro SK. [9] [10]
In the 2023 Allsvenskan Kindberg played due to Ricardo Friedrich receiving two red cards, both in July. [11] He was given the chance as the new first-choice goalkeeper in 2024, as Kalmar struggled near the bottom of the table. [2] [12]
AIK continued treading water in a disappointing season. The failure to qualify for European competitions ensured popular coach Rikard Norling got the sack, much to the dismay of the AIK supporters.
AIK had a sensational season, winning 14 league matches by the odd goal, to claim their first domestic title since 1998, also winning the cup final against IFK Göteborg, also title rivals in the league, which was decided in a straight run-in between the two candidates. There, AIK turned around a 1–0 deficit to win 2–1 and claim the title, more than enough, considering a draw had landed the title as well. Key players in the title success included goalkeeper Daniel Örlund, conceding just 20 goals all season, plus new defensive general Jos Hooiveld, midfielder Jorge Ortiz and striker Iván Obolo, all of them departing following the title success.
AIK suffered from a season of turmoil, starting with high-profile loan signing Sebastián Eguren being a flop, continuing with the resignation of 2009 double-winning coach Mikael Stahre and the reigning champions getting involved in a relegation scrap. A disappointing display in Europe, getting knocked out of both the Champions League and the Europa League early was followed by a decent autumn, which at least saved the contract, much thanks to IFK Värnamo recruit Mohamed Bangura proving to be a success.
