Johor Bahru, colloquially referred to as JB, is the capital city of the state of Johor, Malaysia. It is located along the Straits of Johor, at the southern end of Peninsular Malaysia. The city has a population of 1,711,191 people within an area of 220 km2. Johor Bahru is adjacent to the city of Iskandar Puteri and Pasir Gudang, together with their surrounding areas anchoring Malaysia's second largest urban agglomeration, Iskandar Malaysia, with a population of 2,500,000.
The Johor Bahru District is a district located in the southern part of Johor, Malaysia. The heavily suburban/suburbanizing district covers an area of 1,063.97 km2 (410.80 sq mi) and has a population of 1.71 million. The district capital is Johor Bahru City and the administrative capital is Iskandar Puteri City. The district borders Pontian District on the west, Kota Tinggi District on the east, Kulai District on the north and Straits of Johor to the south. The urban centres are divided into the cities of Johor Bahru, Iskandar Puteri and Pasir Gudang.
The Johor Sultanate was founded by Malaccan Sultan Mahmud Shah's son, Sultan Alauddin Riayat Shah II in 1528. Johor was part of the Malaccan Sultanate before the Portuguese conquered Malacca's capital in 1511. At its height, the sultanate controlled modern-day Johor, Pahang, Terengganu, and territories stretching from the river Klang to the Linggi and Tanjung Tuan, Muar, Batu Pahat, Singapore, Pulau Tinggi and other islands off the east coast of the Malay peninsula, the Karimun islands, the islands of Bintan, Bulang, Lingga and Bunguran, and Bengkalis, Kampar and Siak in Sumatra. During the colonial era, the mainland part was administered by the British, and the insular part by the Dutch, thus breaking up the sultanate into Johor and Riau. In 1946, the British section became part of the Malayan Union. Two years later, it joined the Federation of Malaya and subsequently, the Federation of Malaysia in 1963. In 1949, the Dutch section became part of Indonesia.
Iskandar Puteri is a city which functions as the administrative capital of the state of Johor, Malaysia and represents the seat of government of the state of Johor. Situated along the Straits of Johor at the southern end of the Malay Peninsula, it is also the southernmost city in Peninsular Malaysia.
The Johor State Anthem, which was composed by Armenian bandmaster Mackertich Galistan Abdullah, had no official lyrics until 1914 when a staff member of the Hong Kong Bank in Johor Bahru, Hubert Allen Courtney, wrote the first English words and Haji Mohamed Said Hj. Sulaiman rewrote it in Malay. It was adapted from the famous Malay tune Dondang Sayang and officially approved and adopted by Sultan Ibrahim in 1897.
The Sultan of Johor is a hereditary seat and the sovereign ruler of the Malaysian state of Johor. In the past, the sultan held absolute power over the state and was advised by a bendahara. Currently, the role of bendahara has been taken over by first minister with the constitutional monarchy system via Johor State Constitution. The Sultan is the constitutional head of state of Johor. The Sultan has his own independent military force, the Royal Johor Military Force. The Sultan is also the Head of Islam in Johor state.
Pengerang is a municipality in Kota Tinggi District, in the Malaysian state of Johor. It was established in 2017. It is home to the Pengerang Integrated Petroleum Complex (PIPC), a major hub for the oil and gas industry in the state.
Sultan Ibrahim ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar is the 25th Sultan of Johor and the 5th Sultan of modern Johor, since January 2010. He is the son of Sultan Iskandar. A motorcycle enthusiast, Sultan Ibrahim is the founder of the annual motorcycling tour event, Kembara Mahkota Johor.

Kota Tinggi District is a district in the Malaysian state of Johor. It is the largest district in the state with an area of 3,488.7 square kilometres (1,347.0 sq mi). The population was 187,824 in 2010. The principal town is Kota Tinggi.
The Johor State Legislative Assembly is the unicameral legislature of the Malaysian state of Johor. It is composed of 56 members who are elected from single-member constituencies throughout the state. Elections are held no more than five years apart, along with elections to the federal parliament and other state assemblies.
The Iskandar Coastal Highway (ICH) or the stretch of road that includes Lebuhraya Sultan Iskandar, Persiaran Sultan Abu Bakar and Persiaran Sultan Ismail is a highway in Johor Bahru District, Johor, Malaysia. The 23 km (14 mi) highway connects Iskandar Puteri in the west to Johor Bahru in the east. It is a toll free highway and part of the Iskandar Malaysia project. The Iskandar Coastal Highway is the fifth east–west-oriented expressway in the Iskandar Malaysia area after the Pasir Gudang Highway, the Pontian–Johor Bahru Link of the Second Link Expressway, the Senai–Desaru Expressway and the Johor Bahru East Coast Highway.
Johor Darul Ta'zim Football Club or simply JDT is a professional football club based in Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia. The club was founded in 1972 as PKENJ FC and currently competes in the top division of Malaysian football, the Malaysia Super League. The club is owned by Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim. In 2014, JDT gained their first major honour by winning the national league during the first season under Croatian manager Bojan Hodak. Under Argentine Mario Gómez's tutelage, they won the 2015 AFC Cup and the 2015 Super League. By winning the AFC Cup, JDT became the second Malaysian team since 1967 to enter a final of a major continental competition, and the first ever Malaysian club to win a continental title. Between 2014 and 2022, JDT won nine consecutive league titles. Before this achievement, no Malaysian team had ever won the league championship more than twice in a row since the league system was first introduced in Malaysia in 1982.
The Johor Bahru–Singapore Rapid Transit System is a cross-border rapid transit system that will connect Johor Bahru, Malaysia and Woodlands, Singapore, crossing the Strait of Johor. It will consist of two stations, with the Malaysian terminus at Bukit Chagar station and the Singaporean terminus at Woodlands North station.

The COVID-19 pandemic in Johor, Malaysia started on 25 January 2020 when three Chinese tourists from Wuhan, the source of the outbreak, was tested positive in Iskandar Puteri. As of 24 October 2021, Johor confirmed more than 210,000 cases and over 3,500 deaths. Johor ranked third highest confirmed case of any state in Malaysia, just behind Selangor and Sarawak
The 2022 Johor state election, formally the 15th Johor general election, took place on 12 March 2022. The election was to elect 56 members of the 15th Johor State Legislative Assembly. The previous assembly was dissolved on 22 January 2022.
