James D. Wilcox, ACE, is an American film and television editor and director. [1] [2] He is best known for his work on Thirteen Lives , Hillbilly Elegy , Genius , Roots , CSI: Miami and Everybody Hates Chris . [3] [4]

Life and career

James was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and studied mass communications broadcast management at Clark Atlanta University. [5] He began his editing career in Atlanta, Georgia in 1982. As a producer, he won the Los Angeles Emmy Awards for KCBS-TV's Lip Sync in 1992. [6] He has worked with directors like Ron Howard, James Cameron, Chris Columbus, Tate Taylor, Mario Van Peebles and Damon Wayans. [7] [5]

James is an member of the peer group executive committee at the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and a member of the diversity committee at the Motion Picture Editors Guild and the Directors Guild of America. [8] [9] Variety named him Artisan Elite in 2018. [10]

Founded in 1950, American Cinema Editors (ACE) is an honorary society of film editors that are voted in based on the qualities of professional achievements, their education of others, and their dedication to editing. Zach S. Staenberg, A.C.E. is an American film editor best known for his work on action films and the Matrix Trilogy. Staenberg won an Academy Award and two ACE Eddie Award for the editing of The Matrix (1999) and for HBO's Gotti (1996) for which he was also nominated for an Emmy. The Matrix films were written and directed by the Wachowskis, with whom Staenberg has had an extended collaboration dating from 1996. He is a frequent collaborator of director Andrew Niccol.
