James M. Danko is an American entrepreneur and academic administrator serving as the 21st president of Butler University in Indianapolis,Indiana,since 2011.
Danko grew up in Parma,Ohio,a suburb of Cleveland. He started his first business,a medical and fitness equipment company,when he was 19,simultaneously earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in religious studies from John Carroll University. He ran his company for 17 years and it became the largest fitness equipment company in Ohio at the time. Danko sold his company in 1990 and earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of Michigan. [1]
He went on to serve in business school leadership roles at institutions including the University of Michigan,the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill,Tuck School of Business,and Villanova School of Business. [2] He was appointed dean of the Villanova School of Business in 2005. During his tenure there,VSB moved from an unranked,regional college to a nationally-ranked American business school. [1]
Danko became the president of Butler University in November 2011. [3] During his tenure,the university has reported a significant increase in the number of applicants and financial support,and has received several high regional and national rankings. [2] [4] In interviews,Danko has talked of plans to expand the university's reputation and student population,and in 2013,he moved to enter Butler in the Big East Conference. [3] [4] Danko also became Vice-Chair of the Big East Board of Directors,and currently represents them on the NCAA Division I Presidential Forum. [5]
Danko and his wife Bethanie currently reside on the Butler University campus.
The Big East Conference was a collegiate athletics conference that consisted of as many as 16 universities in the eastern half of the United States from 1979 to 2013. The conference's members participated in 24 NCAA sports. The conference had a history of success at the national level in basketball throughout its history,while its shorter football program,created by inviting one college and four other "associate members" into the conference,resulted in two national championships.
William Francis "Bo" Ryan Jr. is an American former college basketball coach. He was the head coach of the Wisconsin Badgers men's basketball team of the University of Wisconsin–Madison from 2001 to December 2015. Ryan served as the head men's basketball coach at the University of Wisconsin–Platteville from 1984 to 1999 and at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee from 1999 to 2001. His overall collegiate coaching record was 747–233. Ryan was inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame in 2017.
Jerold Taylor "Jay" Wright Jr. is a former American college basketball coach. He served as the head coach of Villanova University from 2001 until 2022. Wright led the Villanova Wildcats to six Big East Conference championships and 16 NCAA tournament appearances in 21 seasons as head coach. Under Wright,Villanova reached four Final Fours and won two national championships in 2016 and 2018.
Thad Michael Matta is an American college basketball coach who is currently in his second stint as head coach of the Butler Bulldogs men's basketball team,having been head coach of the Bulldogs for the 2000–01 season. From 2004 to 2017,Matta led the Ohio State Buckeyes to five Big Ten Conference regular season championships,four Big Ten tournament titles,two Final Four appearances,and the 2008 NIT Championship. He is the winningest coach in Ohio State history.

The move to the AmEast followed a 14-year tenure in the Northeast Conference (NEC),which it joined in 2008 when it began a transition from NCAA Division II to Division I. Bryant's largest rivalry during its Division II years was Bentley College,both founders of the Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) and both have prominent business programs. Bryant University athletics started out as a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) before it transitioned into Division II. Bryant competed in the NE-10 from the conference's founding in 1980 until 2008 when the university began the transition to Division I. In 2012,Bryant became a full Division I member.

The 2016–17 Butler Bulldogs men's basketball team represented Butler University in the 2016–17 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. Their head coach was Chris Holtmann,in his third year. The Bulldogs played their home games at Hinkle Fieldhouse and were members of the Big East Conference. They finished the regular season 25–9,12–6 in Big East play to finish in second place. They lost to Xavier in the quarterfinals of the Big East tournament. The Bulldogs received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament as a No. 4 seed in the South Region. They defeated Winthrop and Middle Tennessee to advance to the Sweet Sixteen. In the Sweet Sixteen,they lost to eventual National Champion North Carolina.

The Bulldogs played their home games at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis,Indiana as members of the Big East Conference. They finished the season 21–14,9–9 in Big East play to finish a tie for sixth place. As the No. 6 seed in the Big East tournament,they defeated Seton Hall before losing to Villanova in the semifinals. They received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament as the No. 10 seed in the Midwest region. There they defeated Arkansas in the first round before losing to Purdue in the second round.

Led by head coach Jay Wright in his 18th year,the Wildcats played their home games at the Finneran Pavilion on the school's campus in the Philadelphia suburb of Villanova,Pennsylvania and Wells Fargo Center as members of the Big East Conference. They finished the season 26–10,13–5 in Big East play to finish in first place. They defeated Providence,Xavier,and Seton Hall to win the Big East tournament. As a result,the Wildcats received the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament as the No. 6 seed in the South region. There they defeated Saint Mary's before being defeated by Purdue in the Second Round.

The 2022–23 Villanova Wildcats men's basketball team represented Villanova University in the 2022–23 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. Led by head coach Kyle Neptune in his first year as a head coach,the Wildcats played their home games at the Finneran Pavilion on the school's campus in the Philadelphia suburb of Villanova,Pennsylvania and Wells Fargo Center as members of the Big East Conference. They finished with a record of 16–15,10–10 to tie for sixth place in regular conference play. In the 2023 Big East Tournament,they defeated Georgetown in the opening round before losing to Creighton in the quarterfinals. The Wildcats received an at-large bit to the NIT,losing in the first round to Liberty.
