James Dring (born 1983) is a British music producer, mixer and songwriter. His work has been nominated for two Grammy awards and a Golden Globe award. [1] [2] [3] [4]

Career

Dring was educated at the De Aston School in Market Rasen. [5] He started his career as an assistant to producer Cameron McVey.[ citation needed ] Dring has worked with various artists, including Gorillaz, Jamie T, Loyle Carner, Beyoncé, Nilufer Yanya, Lana Del Rey, Sorry (band), KennyHoopla, Genesis Owusu, Honeyblood, and Self Esteem. Dring's work on the Gorillaz track Feel Good Inc. was credited in the award nomination for the "Record of the Year" category at the 48th Annual Grammy Awards. [4] The 2008 documentary "Bananaz" highlighted Dring's role in producing Gorillaz's albums "Demon Days" (2005) and "D-Sides" (2007), shedding light on his contributions during the recording of the song "Rockit". [1] He has worked with Jamie T on several studio albums, including "Panic Prevention" (2007), "Kings And Queens" (2009), "Carry On The Grudge" (2014), and "Trick" (2016). [1] [6] [8] [9] [10]

Dring received both Grammy and Golden Globe award nominations for his contribution to the Beyoncé song "Once In a Lifetime", featured in the film Cadillac Records, along with Amanda Ghost, Scott McFarnon, Ian Dench, and Jody Street. [2] [3] [11]

Dring served as the producer for "925" (2020), the debut album by Sorry. [12] [13] He has also contributed to their follow up album “Anywhere but Here”.[ citation needed ]

In 2022, Bucks Music Group announced the signing of Dring to a worldwide songwriting agreement. [1] [6] In 2024 he was the producer for the debut EP, "Head Leaking", by the London based quartet Terra Twin. [14] Dring has been described in the music press as a "revered producer". [15]

Nominations were announced on November 30, 2011, on prime-time television as part of "The GRAMMY Nominations Concert Live! – Countdown to Music's Biggest Night", a one-hour special broadcast live on CBS from Nokia Theatre at L.A. Live. Kanye West received the most nominations with seven. Adele, Foo Fighters, and Bruno Mars each received six nominations. Lil Wayne, Skrillex, and Radiohead all earned five nominations. The nominations were criticised by many music journalists as Kanye West's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy missed out on a nomination for Album of the Year despite being highly critically acclaimed and topping many end of year charts. West's album went on to win Best Rap Album.

He is a frequent collaborator of rapper Kendrick Lamar, having worked on all of his projects since his 2009 self-titled extended play. Sounwave has also worked with artists such as Taylor Swift, Chloe x Halle, Baby Keem, Mac Miller, and Bleachers. He has won three Grammy Awards, including two for Best Rap Album.
