Amanda Louisa Gosein-Cameron (born 10 July 1974), known professionally as Amanda Ghost, is a British music executive, songwriter and singer. She was the president of Epic Records from 2009 until 2010. [1] Ghost is a three-time Ivor Novello Award winner, a Golden Globe nominee, and has been nominated for two Grammy Awards.

Career

Ghost was born in North London to a Gibraltarian mother and an Indo-Trinidadian father. [2] In 1997, she contributed her version of Gary Numan's "Absolution" to the tribute album Random . [3] Her first recording contract was in 2000 with Warner Bros. Records in Los Angeles, for whom she recorded her first album, Ghost Stories . [4] Ghost's second album, Blood on the Line, was released in 2008 [5] on her own record label, Plan A Records. [4]

Ghost co-wrote "Beautiful Liar" for Beyoncé and Shakira, [6] [7] and Jordin Sparks' second single "Tattoo" plus James Blunt's "You're Beautiful". [8] [9] She co-wrote three songs for Beyoncé's third album, I Am... Sasha Fierce . [10] She also collaborated with John Legend on the lyrics for the track "Getting Nowhere" by Magnetic Man. [6]

On 3 February 2009, Ghost was named the new president of Epic Records. [9] She replaced Charlie Walk, who left at the end of 2008. [8]

Ghost collaborated on the songs "For the Glory" and "Vanity Kills" by Ian Brown, (which appeared on Brown's album My Way ) and which she co-wrote with Ian and Dave McCracken. [11] [12] She also co-wrote and co-produced the Shakira single "Gypsy", from the album She Wolf . [13] [14]

Ghost was fired from her position as president of Epic Records in 2010 after 20 months. [15] That same year, she established Outsiders, a joint venture with Sony Music. [6] [16] She has collaborated with Florence and the Machine, [17] Mark Ronson, [18] and A$AP Rocky. [19] [20]

Ghost is a three-time Ivor Novello Award winner, [6] a Golden Globe nominee, [21] and has been nominated for two Grammy Awards; as co-producer of two tracks on Beyoncé's album, I Am... Sasha Fierce , which was nominated as Album of the Year, and the other for "Once in a Lifetime", which she co-wrote with Scott McFarnon, Ian Dench, Jody Street, James Dring and Beyoncé. The song was the part of the soundtrack from Beyoncé's film, Cadillac Records and was nominated for Best Song Written for a Motion Picture, also in 2010. [22]

"Hips Don't Lie" is a song by Colombian singer-songwriter Shakira, featuring Haitian rapper Wyclef Jean, released by Epic Records in 2006. The song was released as the first single from the reissue of Shakira's seventh studio album, Oral Fixation, Vol. 2, and second overall. Shakira and Jean wrote the lyrics and jointly composed the music with additional co-writing by Shakira's percussionist Archie Pena. The song was produced by Shakira and Jean with additional co-production by Jerry Duplessis. "Hips Don't Lie" is a reworking of Jean's earlier single "Dance Like This", therefore it features additional composing credits by Omar Alfanno, Duplessis, Luis Días, and LaTavia Parker. The song incorporates samples from "Amores Como el Nuestro" written by Alfanno, and "Carnaval " written by Días.

Eriksen and Tor Erik Hermansen, and produced by Stargate and Beyoncé for the deluxe edition of Beyoncé's second solo studio album, B'Day (2006). The mixing of the song was done by Gustavo Celis. "Beautiful Liar" was released on February 12, 2007, through Columbia Records and Music World Entertainment as the only single from the deluxe edition of the album. A Spanglish mixed version of the song was produced and titled "Bello Embustero".

As executive producers, Shakira and Amanda Ghost enlisted collaborators including The Neptunes, John Hill, Wyclef Jean, Lukas Burton, Future Cut, Jerry Duplessis and Timbaland. Musically, the record shifts from her traditional Latin pop and pop rock musical styles, instead exploring electropop, with influences of folk and world music. The lyrical themes of the album mostly focus on love and relationships and were based on the conversations Shakira had with her female friends.
