James Ervan "Jim" Parker (born December 21, 1942, in La Habra, California) [2] is an American singer-songwriter and co-founder of the Huntsville, Alabama sub-chapter of the Nashville Songwriters Association International. [3] Parker lives in Madison, Alabama, his home since 1985.
Parker received his first guitar from Jimmy Gilmer of The Fireballs in 1961. At the time Gilmer was dating Parker's sister. [4]
In 1961 Jim Parker joined a music group that called themselves The Illusions:
The group recorded a single with Dot Records which was produced by Tommy Allsup (Buddy Holly's lead guitar player) in Odessa, Texas. Parker wrote the A-side, "Brenda (Don't Put Me Down)," and co-wrote the B-side, "(Secrets Of Love)". "Tommy had a very nice studio and was a real pro when it came to handling young musicians. Mark Creamer's Dad, Gordon, played some really cool flute on it." [5]
The group continued to record in Amarillo under the Ruff label, produced by Ray Ruff. The group changed their name to the Y'alls in 1964 and recorded a second single in 1966. In 1965 the group had moved to Los Angeles where they later changed their name to the Kitchen Cinq and worked under Lee Hazlewood's LHI Records label. They released their first album, Everything But... by the Kitchen Cinq.
The group had only a regional fan base, and in an effort to gain a new start for a national base their name was changed two more times. A single, "Dying Daffodil Incident" b/w "Does Anybody Know" (LHI 45–1201, 1967), was released under the name A Handful. The group changed bass players and changed their name one more time to Armageddon and recorded one more album and then disbanded. [5]
An anthology on Light in the Attic Records, When The Rainbow Disappears, was released August 28, 2015, including a box set of most of the early recordings. Excluded was "Don't Put Me Down" penned by Jim Parker and "Secrets of Love" by Jim Parker and Dale Gardener. It was the group's first major-label deal when they were the Illusions signed to Dot Records. Also excluded were The Kitchen Cinq's "Minstrel Song" and the cover of "She's So Fine" on the Decca label.
Parker and Johnny Stark joined the last original member of the group Them—bass player Alan Henderson—for the final lineup of the band that originally had included Van Morrison. A single album, Them – In Reality, was produced in 1971 and included five tracks cowritten by Parker and Stark. [6]
Parker transitioned to country music in the mid-1970s and began to focus on song writing. He still performed and toured with Dave & Sugar from 1980 to 1981.
Parker co-wrote John Anderson's first single, "I've Got a Feelin' (Somebody's Been Stealin')" (co-written with John Anderson and Michael Garvin), in 1978. The song received an ASCAP country song award. In the late 1970s Parker co-wrote "Chicken Truck", which was recorded by John Anderson in 1981 [7] as the last song in a recording session. The song became a B-side release for the song "I Love You A Thousand Ways" by Lefty Frizzell, but Jerry House, a popular DJ in Nashville, turned the single over and played the B-side, and the song took off. Parker co-wrote the title track of John Anderson's twelfth studio album, Bigger Hands , which was released in 2009 and peaked at number 53 on the Billboard Country Albums Chart. The song was released as the second single from the album but did not chart.
Parker is the creator and host of a show at the Von Braun Center Playhouse in Huntsville, Alabama, called Jim Parker's Songwriters Series where he showcases the talent of songwriters from Los Angeles; Canada; Georgia; Nashville, Tennessee; Muscle Shoals, Alabama; and surrounding areas. This monthly event with a dinner-theater atmosphere lets people listen to songs and the stories behind them from the people who wrote them. [4]
John Elefante is an American singer, songwriter, musician, and record producer. From 1981-1984, he was lead vocalist of the rock group Kansas and is currently touring with several groups that have featured members from classic rock bands. His credits include writing and singing lead vocals on three multi-platinum albums. He produced albums that have earned numerous GMA Dove Awards, four Grammy Awards, and ten Grammy nominations. He has maintained a close working relationship with his brother, Dino, co-writer of several Kansas songs.
LHI Records was an American record label founded by Lee Hazlewood. LHI stood for Lee Hazlewood Industries. The label was first distributed by Decca Records then by ABC Records. By 1969, LHI was distributed independently with tape distribution by Ampex. The label lasted until 1971.
Atlanta Rhythm Section is an American Southern rock band formed in 1970 by Rodney Justo (singer), Barry Bailey (guitar), Paul Goddard (bass), Dean Daughtry (keyboards), Robert Nix (drums) and J. R. Cobb (guitar). The band experienced its greatest chart success with Ronnie Hammond as lead singer 1972–1982. Hammond returned again 1988–2001. The band's current lineup consists of Justo, along with guitarists David Anderson and Steve Stone, keyboardist Lee Shealy, bassist Justin Senker and drummer Rodger Stephan.
Alton Delmore and Rabon Delmore, billed as The Delmore Brothers, were country music pioneer singer-songwriters and musicians who were stars of the Grand Ole Opry in the 1930s. The Delmore Brothers, together with other brother duos such as the Louvin Brothers, the Blue Sky Boys, the Monroe Brothers, the McGee Brothers, and The Stanley Brothers, had a profound impact on the history of country music and American popular music. The duo performed extensively with old time fiddler Arthur Smith as the Arthur Smith Trio throughout the 1930s.
Sawyer Brown is an American country music band. It was founded in 1981 in Apopka, Florida, by Mark Miller, Gregg "Hobie" Hubbard, Bobby Randall, Joe "Curly" Smyth (drums), and Jim Scholten. The five musicians were originally members of country singer Don King's road band, but chose to stay together after King retired in 1981. After competing on the television competition series Star Search and winning that show's grand prize, they signed to Capitol Records in 1984. The band recorded for Capitol between then and 1991, and for Curb Records between 1991 and 2005, except for a short time in 2003 when they were signed to Lyric Street Records. Duncan Cameron, formerly of the Amazing Rhythm Aces, replaced Randall in 1991, and Shayne Hill replaced him in 2004.
The Forester Sisters were an American country music vocal group consisting of sisters Christy, June, Kathy, and Kim Forester. Having performed together locally in their native Lookout Mountain, Georgia, since the 1970s, the four sisters began singing full-time in the 1980s and signed to Warner Records Nashville in 1984. Their greatest commercial success came between then and 1991, when they charted fifteen top-ten hits on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, five of which went to number one: "I Fell in Love Again Last Night", "Just in Case", "Mama's Never Seen Those Eyes", "Too Much Is Not Enough", and "You Again". They won the Academy of Country Music Group of the Year award in 1986 and were nominated three times for a Grammy Award. In addition to their country music albums, they released multiple albums of gospel music and one of Christmas music.

Shenandoah is an American country music band founded in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, in 1984 by Marty Raybon, Ralph Ezell, Stan Thorn, Jim Seales, and Mike McGuire. Thorn and Ezell left the band in the mid-1990s, with Rocky Thacker taking over on bass guitar; Keyboardist Stan Munsey joined the line up in 1995, until his departure in 2018. The band split up in 1997 after Raybon left. Seales and McGuire reformed the band in 2000 with lead singer Brent Lamb, who was in turn replaced by Curtis Wright and then by Jimmy Yeary. Ezell rejoined in the early 2000s, and after his 2007 death, he was replaced by Mike Folsom. Raybon returned to the band in 2014. That same year, Jamie Michael replaced the retiring Jim Seales on lead guitar.
Heartland is an American country music band from Huntsville, Alabama. It originally consisted of Jason Albert, Craig Anderson, Todd Anderson (drums), Chuck Crawford, Mike Myerson, and Keith West. Signed to Lofton Creek Records in 2006, the band topped the country charts that year with its debut single "I Loved Her First", also the title track to its debut album. After their next five singles failed to chart within the Top 40, all members except Albert and Crawford left, with former solo artist Chad Austin joining. This lineup disbanded in 2012. In 2023, the band re-established with a lineup consisting of Craig and Todd Anderson, Mike Myerson, and lead vocalist Lance Horton.
McBride & the Ride is an American country music band consisting of Terry McBride, Ray Herndon, and Billy Thomas. The group was founded in 1989 through the assistance of record producer Tony Brown. McBride & the Ride's first three albums — Burnin' Up the Road, the gold-certified Sacred Ground, and Hurry Sundown, released in 1991, 1992, and 1993, respectively — were all issued on MCA Nashville. These albums also produced several hits on the Billboard country charts, including the Top 5 hits "Sacred Ground", "Going Out of My Mind", "Just One Night", and "Love on the Loose, Heart on the Run".
Jason Dale Sellers is an American country music artist. After several years of touring the United States in his family's band, Sellers joined the road band of Ricky Skaggs. By 1997, he was signed to a recording contract with BNA Records, for whom he recorded two studio albums: 1997's I'm Your Man and 1999's A Matter of Time. These two albums produced five singles on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks charts; each album's title track reached Top 40 on that chart. Although he has not recorded any albums since A Matter of Time, Jason has had continued success as a songwriter, with acts such as Lonestar, Kenny Chesney, and Montgomery Gentry having recorded his songs. In addition, he holds several credits as a session background vocalist.
James Allen Otto is an American country music singer and songwriter. Otto began his career on Mercury Nashville Records in 2002, charting three minor singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts and recording his debut album Days of Our Lives for the label before being dropped in 2004.

Paul Worley is an American record producer and session guitarist, known primarily for his work in country music. Formerly a vice president at Sony BMG, he later joined the staff of Warner Bros. Records' Nashville division as chief creative officer. Since leaving Warner in the early 2000s, Worley has worked mainly as a record producer for other acts, such as Big & Rich, as well as an occasional session guitarist. He is most widely known as the co- producer of the self-titled debut album of Lady Antebellum (2008) and as one of the producers of their second album, Need You Now (2010). He also discovered the Dixie Chicks and, with Blake Chancey, co-produced their first two albums.
Hey Y'all is the second studio album by the American singer Elizabeth Cook, released on August 27, 2002, by the Warner Bros. record label. The album was the first time its executive producer, Richard Dodd, had worked in country music. A majority of the songs were written by Cook and the songwriter Hardie McGehee, who shared a music publisher. Prior to Hey Y'all, Cook had independently released her debut studio album, The Blue Album (2000), and performed over 100 times at the Grand Ole Opry. She signed a deal with Atlantic Records but was later transferred to Warner Bros. after AOL-Time Warner closed Atlantic's Nashville office. Hey Y'all was Cook's debut on a major record label.
Rebecca Lynn Howard is the debut studio album by American country music singer-songwriter Rebecca Lynn Howard, released May 2, 2000 via MCA Nashville. Before this, she had recorded an entire full-length album under the Rising Tide Nashville label, which went unreleased due to the label's bankruptcy. She then went to Decca Nashville, which also closed. In early 1999, she would get a deal with MCA Nashville Records, a deal which would last until 2004 when she left the label following yet another unreleased album. The album was initially planned to be released on September 7, 1999.
Bigger Hands is the twentieth studio album of country music artist John Anderson. It was released in 2009 under the Country Crossing label. The album produced the single "Cold Coffee and Hot Beer." Anderson co-produced the album and co-wrote all of the tracks, and includes his version of "Shuttin' Detroit Down," a protest song he wrote with John Rich, who included it on his 2009 album Son of a Preacher Man from which it was released as a single. Also included is the song "How Can I Be So Thirsty," which was also recorded by co-writer Jerrod Niemann on his 2010 album Judge Jerrod & the Hung Jury.
The Kitchen Cinq were an American garage rock band from Amarillo, Texas active in the 1960s, whose lineup included guitarist and songwriter Jim Parker. They evolved out of the Illusions and eventually changed their name to the Y'alls, releasing records under both names, and enjoyed regional success before moving to Los Angeles, where they signed with Lee Hazlewood's LHI label and became the Kitchen Cinq. As the Kitchen Cinq they recorded five singles between 1966 and 1968, as well as the album Everything but the Kitchen Cinq, released in 1967. In December 1967, they released a single under the alias a Handful, but returned to their better-known moniker for their final release in 1968.
Bill Anderson Sings Country Heart Songs is a compilation album by American country singer-songwriter Bill Anderson. It was released in January 1962 on Decca Records and was produced by Owen Bradley. Despite it being a compilation, the project was Anderson's debut album release as a recording artist. It featured several of his early hits with the Decca label and included one song that would later be issued as a single in 1962.
Jim McBride is an American country music songwriter. He has written six number one songs, ten top 10 singles, and eighteen top 40 singles. In 2017, McBride was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.
