James Paul Jajuga (born December 12,1946,Haverhill,Massachusetts) is an American politician who was Mayor of Methuen,Massachusetts between 2017 and 2020. He also served as Massachusetts Secretary of Public Safety from 2001 to 2003. He later represented the Third Essex District in the Massachusetts Senate from 1991 to 2001. [2] On June 25,2019,Jajuga announced he would not be running for re-election as Methuen's mayor. Neil Perry succeeded him,winning the 2019 election. [1] He's also a two-time former city councilor,US Marine and a member of the Massachusetts State Police. [3]
Methuen had several fiscal issues while Jajuga was on the City Council and served as mayor,including a School Department that overspent its budget by $4 million and a contract with the police department where captains would $434,841 on average. To keep within the budget,the initial plan was to lay off a large percentage of the patrol cops. As a result of their financial issues,there was a temporary state overseer and a new government structure put in place. [3]
Jajuga was named in a civil rights lawsuit filed by City of Methuen electrician Dan Tulley. The suit was filed in federal court and alleges "political retaliation and an offer of political payoffs in exchange for his step-son's support on the Methuen Police Superior Officer's contract." Tulley's stepson is Methuen City Councilor James McCarty. Jajuga's son is a captain on the police force and McCarty "opposed Jajuga's efforts to settle the contract and threatened to lay off police officers or reorganize the police superior officers,which would have cut Jajuga's son's position." Methuen is a 23-square-mile city in Essex County,Massachusetts,United States. The population was 53,059 at the 2020 census. Methuen lies along the northwestern edge of Essex County,just east of Middlesex County and just south of Rockingham County,New Hampshire. The city is bordered by Haverhill to the northeast,North Andover to the southeast,Lawrence and Andover to the south,Dracut to the west,Pelham,New Hampshire to the northwest,and Salem,New Hampshire to the north. Methuen is located 17 miles (27 km) southwest from Newburyport,30 miles (48 km) north-northwest of Boston and 25 miles (40 km) south-southeast of Manchester,New Hampshire.
Kwame Malik Kilpatrick is an American politician,convicted fraudster and racketeer,who previously served as the 72nd mayor of Detroit –from 2002 to 2008. A member of the Democratic Party,he previously represented the 9th district in the Michigan House of Representatives from 1997 to 2002. Kilpatrick resigned as mayor in September 2008 after being convicted of perjury and obstruction of justice. He was sentenced to four months in jail and was released on probation after serving 99 days.

Andrea Joy Campbell is an American lawyer and politician who is serving as the attorney general of Massachusetts. Campbell is a former member of the Boston City Council. The police abolition movement gained momentum in the U.S. city of Minneapolis during protests of the murder of George Floyd in 2020 and culminated in the failed Question 2 ballot measure in 2021 to replace the city's police department with a public safety department. The measure would have removed minimum staffing levels for sworn officers,renamed the Minneapolis Police Department as the Minneapolis Department of Public Safety,and shifted oversight of the new agency from the mayor's office to the city council. It required the support of 51 percent of voters in order to pass. In the Minneapolis municipal election held on November 2,2021,the measure failed with 43.8 percent voting for it and 56.2 percent voting against it.

The Atlanta Eagle police raid was a police raid targeting the Atlanta Eagle,a gay bar in Atlanta,Georgia,United States. The raid occurred on September 10,2009,due to anonymous tips alleging that illegal drug use and sex was occurring at the bar. Several dozen officers were involved in the raid,including members of the Atlanta Police Department's vice squad and the "Red Dog Unit",a SWAT-like unit typically used in high drug use areas. None of the 62 bar patrons that night were arrested,although eight employees were. Seven of these employees were either found not guilty or had charges dropped against them,while one was not present at the trials and had a bench warrant issued against him.
