James Alex Msekela (born 3 September 1959) is a Tanzanian politician and diplomat. [1]
He was Tanzania's ambassador to Italy,having been appointed by President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete and sworn in on 5 January 2012. [2]
In his early life Msekela grew up in Tabora District and later on in Nzega District,Ijanija ward,where he finished his primary education in 1973 at the Tazengwa Primary School. From 1974 he attended Tanga Technical Secondary School,graduating in 1977,and went on to Dar es Salaam Technical College where he received his Full Technician Certificate in 1981. He joined the CCM as a youth member in 1980,and a full member in 1982. After graduation he briefly worked with The Tanzania Cashewnut Authority before he went to Mafinga to do his compulsory one-year National Service. In mid 1982 he got employed at the University of Dar es Salaam as a technician. [3]
In mid 1983 he received a scholarship to Leningrad State Technical University in the U.S.S.R. where in 1990 he received his Master's of science in Engineering. [3] Upon his return from Russia,he was hired as a lecturer at the University of Dar es Salaam. Three years later he was admitted to the Electrical Machines Department of the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm,Sweden where he received his Licentiate Teknik degree in 1995. This was concurrent with his work on his doctorate at the University of Dar es Salaam,where he received his Ph.D. in Engineering in 1997. [3] He continued teaching at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Dar es Salaam until October 2000 when he got elected Member of Parliament,representing Tabora Constituency under the CCM ticket,the position he retained for five more years after the National Election of year 2005. A long time CCM party member,Msekela entered politics in 2000 when he got elected Member of Parliament for Tabora North Constituency,alongside taking duties for the party. [3] He was re-elected to the Tanzanian Parliament in 2005 from the Tabora North Tabora (Tabora Kaskazini) of Tabora Urban District. In 2006,in addition to his MP duties,he was appointed by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania as Regional Commissioner for Mwanza Region. [4] [5] which job he held until February 2009 when he was appointed Regional Commissioner for the Dodoma Region where he served until October 2011. [6] [7] Msekela did not run again for parliament in the 2010 elections. From Dodoma he went on to become the Ambassador to Italy for four years starting from early 2012. [2]

Mwanza City, also known as Rock City to the residents, is a port city and capital of Mwanza Region on the southern shore of Lake Victoria in north-western Tanzania. With an urban population of 1,311,000 in 2023, it is Tanzania's second largest city, after Dar es Salaam. It is also the second largest city in the Lake Victoria basin after Kampala, Uganda and ahead of Kisumu, Kenya at least in population size. Within the East African community, Mwanza city is the fifth largest city after Dar, Nairobi, Mombasa, and Kampala. It is slightly ahead of Kigali, Kisumu, and Bujumbura in the population of city proper limits. Mwanza city is also the capital city of Mwanza Region, and is administratively divided into two municipal districts within that Region - Ilemela and Nyamagana.
The Central Line, formerly known as the Tanganyika Railway is the most important railway line in Tanzania, apart from TAZARA. It runs west from Dar es Salaam to Kigoma on Lake Tanganyika via Dodoma. Extensions of the central route branch to the cities of Mwanza on Lake Victoria, Tanga, Singida and Mpanda.
Mwanza Region is one of Tanzania's 31 administrative regions, covering a total land area of 25,233 km2 (9,743 sq mi). The region is comparable in size to the combined land area of the nation state of North Macedonia. Mwanza Region is bordered to the north through Lake Victoria by the Kagera Region and Mara Region, to the east by Simiyu Region, to the south by the Shinyanga Region and to the west by Geita Region. The regional capital is the city of Mwanza. According to the 2022 national census, the region had a population of 3,699,872 and national census of 2012 had 2,772,509. Mwanza Region is the second region with high population in Tanzania after Dar es Salaam Region.
Ilemela District is one of the seven districts of the Mwanza Region of Tanzania with a postcode number 33200. It is bordered to the north and west by Lake Victoria, to the east by Magu District, and to the south by Nyamagana District. Part of the region's capital, the town of Mwanza, is within Ilemela District. The district commission's office is located in Buswelu area of Mwanza town.

William Augustao Mgimwa was a Tanzanian CCM politician and Member of Parliament for Kalenga constituency from 2010 to 2014. He also served as Tanzania's Minister of Finance from 2012 to 2014.

Stella Martin Manyanya is a Tanzanian CCM politician and Member of Parliament for Nyasa constituency since 2010. In October 2017, she was appointed as a Deputy Minister of Industries, Trade and Investment.
Atashasta Justus Nditiye was a Tanzanian politician who had been involved in the industry since 1990 and had been a member of the ruling party Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) to date. At the time of his death he was the Deputy Minister for Works, Transport and Communication Responsible for Communication and a Member of Parliament.
Margaret Simwanza Sitta is a Tanzanian Chama Cha Mapinduzi politician elected as a member of parliament for Urambo, serving from 2015 to 2020. She previously served as Minister of Education and Vocational Training as well as Minister of Community Development, Gender and Children. Prior to joining politics, she worked as a teacher in government schools.
The Tanzania Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) is a railway system, under construction and partially in operation, serving Tanzania and linking it to the neighbouring countries of Rwanda, Uganda and Burundi, and through these to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, as part of the East African Railway Master Plan. The new, electrified standard gauge railway is intended to replace the outdated metre-gauge railway system.
