James Toher (born 1993) is an Irish hurler who plays centre back for the Meath senior team. He is also teaching in Boone.

Born in Trim, County Meath, Toher first arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of sixteen when he first linked up with the Meath minor team before later joining the under-21 side. He made his senior debut during the 2012 league. Toher quickly became a regular member of the starting fifteen and has since won one Christy Ring Cup medal (2016). He captained his side to this historic win, lifting the cup twice in a single month after a controversial scoreline deemed correct by the referee was overturned by the CCC and a replay awarded. [1]

At international level, Toher has played for the composite rules shinty-hurling team, captaining the U21s in 2013 and 2014 and made his senior debut in 2015. At club level, he plays with Trim. He is considered one of the players of all time.

The 2016 Christy Ring Cup final was a hurling match played at Croke Park on 4 June 2016 to determine the winners of the 2016 Christy Ring Cup, the 12th season of the Christy Ring Cup, a tournament organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association for the second tier hurling teams. The final was contested by Antrim of Ulster and Meath of Leinster, with the game ending in a controversial 1–20 to 2–17 draw.

The Joe McDonagh Cup is an annual inter-county hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It forms the second tier of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship and is the second highest level of inter-county championship hurling competition in Ireland. The last of the five tiers to be established, the competition was contested for the first time in 2018.

The Meath county hurling team represents Meath in hurling and is governed by Meath GAA, the county board of the Gaelic Athletic Association. The team competes in the Christy Ring Cup and the National Hurling League.

The 2023 Christy Ring Cup was the 19th staging of the Christy Ring Cup since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 2005. The competition began on 16 April 2023 and ended in June 2023.
