Jamia Arabia Masoodia Noorul Uloom, also known as Noorul Uloom Bahraich, is the oldest Islamic saminary belonging to the Deobandi school of thought in the Bahraich City of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
Jamia Arabia Masoodia Noorul Uloom (then Madrasa Arabia Noorul Uloom) was founded in Qazipura, Bahraich, on 1 Dhu al-Qadah 1349 AH (29 March 1931 AD) by Mahfoozur Rahman Nami, after the demise of his father Noor Muhammad Bahraichi. [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] At the time of independence, Nami also founded a modern educational institution, Maulana Azad Noorul Uloom High School, now known as Azad Inter College, in Bahraich in 1948 for the promotion and dissemination of contemporary studies. [8] [9]
In January 1937, the seminary established a private school teaching leather goods manufacturing under the name Noorul Uloom for the Economic Development of Underprivileged Muslim Youth, which was also given an annual grant of Rs. 600 by the government through the Department of Industries. [10] [11]
Graduates there are known by the suffix Noori. [12] [13]
The people of this seminary have also participated in the independence movement in India. In connection with the Quit India Movement, Salamatullah Baig Qasmi, a former principal of the madrasa, went to jail. Kaleemullah Noori, a former working rector of the saminary, in his student days, on the instructions of his teachers, joined Mahatma Gandhi's Satyagraha movement in 1941, and in this connection, he had to spend more than a year in the jails of Bahraich and Gonda. He worked under the Quit India Movement in 1942 in order to remain associated with the freedom movement until the independence of India. Both of them were given the title of freedom fighter during the ministry of Indira Gandhi. [14] [15]
The first rector of the institution was Muhammad Ehsanul Haq [18] and the current rector of the institution is Zubair Ahmad Qasmi. [1]
Abdul Hafeez Balyawi, the author of the bilingual Arabic-Urdu dictionary Misbahul Lughat [19] [20] [21] and the third editor of Monthly Darul Uloom, [22] [23] was an academic staff member and the warden (Arabic: ناظر الكلية) of the seminary. [24] [25]

Mahmud Hasan Deobandi was an Indian Muslim scholar and an activist of the Indian independence movement, who co-founded the Jamia Millia Islamia university and launched the Silk Letter Movement for the freedom of India. He was the first student to study at the Darul Uloom Deoband seminary. His teachers included Muhammad Qasim Nanautawi and Mahmud Deobandi, and he was authorized in Sufism by Imdadullah Muhajir Makki and Rashid Ahmad Gangohi.
Muhammad Qasim Nanautavi was an Indian Sunni Hanafi Maturidi Islamic Scholar, theologian and a Sufi who was one of the main founders of the Deobandi Movement, starting from the Darul Uloom Deoband.
Muhammad Masihullah Khan Sherwani Jalalabadi was an Indian Deobandi Islamic scholar known as an authority in Sufism. He was among the senior authorised disciples of Ashraf Ali Thanwi, who gave him the title Masīh al-Ummah.
Mazahir Uloom is an Islamic seminary located in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Started in November 1866 by Sa'ādat Ali Faqīh, and developed further by Mazhar Nanautawi and Ahmad Ali Saharanpuri; it is regarded as the second most influential and major Deobandi seminary in India. The earliest graduates of the seminary include famous Hadīth scholar Khalil Ahmad Saharanpuri. In 1983, the seminary split into two with the establishment of Mazahir Uloom Jadeed as a new independent seminary. Since then the seminary has been named as Mazahir Uloom Waqf Qadeem.
Arshad Madani is an Indian Muslim scholar and the current Principal of Darul Uloom Deoband. He succeeded Asad Madni as the eighth president of the Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind. The organization split around 2008, and Madani continues to serve as the president of its Arshad faction.
Nizāmuddīn Asīr Adrawi was an Indian Sunni Muslim scholar, biographer, historian and author in the Urdu language. He established Madrassa Darus Salam in Adari and served as Officer In Charge of Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind in Lucknow from 1974 to 1978.
Zayn al-Abidin Sajjad Meerthi (1910–1991) was an Indian Sunni Muslim scholar and historian and head of the Islamic studies department of Jamia Millia Islamia. His book Tarikh-e-Millat is required reading in the syllabus of Darul Uloom Deoband and in madrasas affiliated with it.

Hāmid al-Ansāri Ghāzi was an Indian Muslim scholar, author and a journalist, who co-founded the Nadwatul Musannifeen and served as the editor of bi-weekly newspaper Madina. He was the son of Muhammad Mian Mansoor Ansari and an alumnus of the Darul Uloom Deoband, Jamia Islamia Talimuddin and University of the Punjab. He was a member of the executive council of Darul Uloom Deoband and authored books such as Islām ka Nizām-e-Hukūmat and Khulq-e-Azeem.
Mahfoozur Rahman Nami was an Indian Muslim scholar, politician and an author. He was an alumnus of Jamia Miftahul Uloom and Darul Uloom Deoband. He established Madrasa Nūr-ul-Ulūm and Azad Inter College in Bahraich.
The Siddiqi family of Nanauta are the descendants of the first Rashidun Caliph, Abu Bakr, based primarily in the town of Nanauta in India. Abdul Khaliq Sambhali was an Indian Muslim scholar and writer who served as the vice-rector of Darul Uloom Deoband. He was an alumnus of the Deoband seminary and had studied with scholars including Mahmood Hasan Gangohi, Muhammad Tayyib Qasmi and Syed Fakhruddin Ahmad. He translated Abdul Majeed al-Zindani's Al-Tawḥīd into Urdu and gave religious discourses criticizing the Maududism.
Wahīduzzamān Kairānawi (1930–1995), also spelt as Waheed-uz-Zaman Keranvi, was an Indian Sunni Muslim scholar, author, lexicographer, and professor who specialised in Arabic. He spent around 27 years instructing Hadith and Arabic at Darul Uloom Deoband.

Nizamuddin Azami was an Islamic scholar who served as the twelfth and last Grand Mufti of Darul Uloom Deoband. He made contributions in Islamic jurisprudence, and his works include Muntakhabat-e-Nizām al-Fatāwa, a collection of selected fatwas he wrote during his tenure at Deoband.
Nematullah Azami, also written as Nematullah Azmi, is an Indian Islamic scholar, muhaddith, a commentator on the Quran (mufassir), and a faqīh. He is the president of India's Islamic Fiqh Academy. He has also been serving as a senior lecturer at Darul Uloom Deoband for forty years.
Sayed Sirajussajidin Katki was an Indian Islamic scholar, poet, and orator. He dedicated almost his entire career to Jamia Islamia Markazul Uloom, Sungra. He also served as the 4th President of Jamiat Ulama Odisha and the second Amīr-e-Sharī'at of Imārat-e-Shar'ia, Odisha.
Muhammad Ibrahim Balyawi (1887–1976), also spelt as Muhammad Ibrahim Balliavi, was an Indian Sunni Muslim scholar who served as the 6th Principal of Darul Uloom Deoband. He spent almost 50 years instructing Hadith, Mantiq, Islamic philosophy, and other subjects at Darul Uloom Deoband.
