Jan Penris (born 12 January 1964,Mortsel) is a Belgian politician of the Vlaams Belang party who sat as a member of the Flemish Parliament and then the Chamber of Representatives.
Penris graduated in law at the University of Antwerp in 1987 and later a degree in maritime studies. He became active in the Flemish nationalist Nationalistische Studentenvereniging student group at this time and served as its president. After graduating he worked in a business capacity for the Port of Antwerp. [1]
He was elected in the first Flemish Parliament election as part of the 1995 Belgian regional elections to represent the Antwerp district constituency. He was reelected consecutively until 2014. After the 2014 Belgian federal election,he sat as an member of the Chamber of Representatives to replace Marijke Dillen who had chosen not to take her seat. From 1993 to 2012,Penris was the party secretary of the Vlaams Belang. [2] Penris caused some controversy when he expressed symapthy towards Vladimir Putin in 2014 and visited Crimea during the 2014 Crimean status referendum. [3] [4]
In February 2019,Penris issued an apology after being caught on camera swearing and making obscene gestures at Open VLD politician Carina Van Cauter during a plenary meeting in the Chamber. The following day Filip Dewinter stated Penris' behaviour was a result of alcohol-related depression. Penris decided to undergo treatment and temporarily withdrew from federal politics. He also stood down from the Chamber at the 2019 Belgian federal election. That same year he was elected as a municipal councilor in Antwerp. [5] [6]
Hugo F.V. Coveliers is a retired Belgian politician and lawyer. He was a member of the Belgian Chamber of People's Representatives between 1985 and 1995,and from 1993 to 2003. Since 2003,he has been a member of the Belgian Senate. He was a parliamentary chairman for the VLD in both chambers,from 1999 to 2003.
Vlaams Belang is a Flemish nationalist,and right-wing populist political party in the Flemish Region and Brussels Capital Region of Belgium. It is widely considered to be on the political far-right.
Gerolf Emma Jozef Annemans is a Belgian lawyer,journalist and politician of the Flemish nationalist party Vlaams Belang (VB) and formerly of its predecessor,the Vlaams Blok. He has been a member of the European Parliament since 2014,and a city councilor in Antwerp since 2000. He served as a member of the Chamber of Representatives from 1987 to 2014,and as a city councilor in Brasschaat from 1994 to 2000. He was the former leader of the VB from 2012 to 2014,and led the Vlaams Blok and VB parliamentary groups from 1991 to 2013.
Nova Civitas was a Flemish think tank based on the principles of classic liberalism in combination with Anglo-Saxon conservatism. Nova Civitas claimed at its founding to be completely independent,although it was recognized and supported by the Flemish Liberal Party (VLD). The Founding Chairman of Nova Civitas,Boudewijn Bouckaert,was a long-time board member of the VLD.

VLOTT is a minor Belgian right-wing liberal or fortuynist political party. Its title,VLOTT,is an acronym for "Flemish,Liberal,Independent,Tolerant,Transparent". It was founded on 23 November 2005 by ex-Open VLD member Hugo Coveliers. It participated in a list-cartel with the Vlaams Belang in the October 2006 Antwerp municipal elections and in selected provincial,municipal and district elections elsewhere in Flanders. Despite the popularity of their founder in Antwerp the shared effort of the cartel-partners did only result in a small 0.5 percent win,with no extra seat in the city-council. In 2007,VLOTT did not participate in the general elections,but their candidates appeared as independents on the Vlaams Belang ballots. Only founder Hugo Coveliers was elected to the Belgian Senate. After Coveliers withdrawal from active politics early 2012 Vlaams Belang stopped its cooperation with the party.
Bart Albert Liliane De Wever is a Belgian politician. Since 2004,De Wever has been the leader of the New Flemish Alliance (N-VA),a political party advocating for the independence of Flanders. He is also a member of the Chamber of Representatives. De Wever played a prominent role in the 2007 Belgian government formation and presided over his party's victory in the 2010 federal elections when N-VA became the largest party in both Flanders and in Belgium as a whole.
