Jan C. Perry (born June 8,1955) [1] is an American politician from California. A member of the Democratic Party,she served on the Los Angeles City Council from 2001 to 2013.
Perry represented the Ninth District on the Los Angeles City Council from 2001 to 2013 and was president pro tempore of the Council. [2] She is a member of the Democratic Party. She was a candidate for mayor of Los Angeles in 2013.
Perry was elected to office in 2001 to succeed Councilwoman Rita Walters,whom she had served as chief of staff. Re-elected in 2005 and 2009,Perry left office in 2013.
She helped enact restrictions on fast food restaurants in her district. As part of a larger campaign to combat high obesity rates,Perry has also funded public parks to promote outdoor activity and supported incentives to encourage more grocery stores to open within her district. [3]
Jan Perry was the general manager of the Los Angeles Economic &Workforce Development Department (EWDD) of the City of Los Angeles. Initially appointed as Interim General Manager of the Los Angeles Economic &Workforce Development Department (EWDD) in July 2013 by Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti,her former rival. She was named general manager in November 2013. [4] She stepped down at the end of 2018. [5]
In 2022,Jan Perry ran for Congress in California's 37th congressional district to succeed Karen Bass,who was elected mayor of Los Angeles. Perry was defeated by Sydney Kamlager.
A 9-acre underutilized bus maintenance yard was developed into a South Los Angeles storm water wetlands and community park. [6]
The Los Angeles City Council voted to rename the park "The Jan Perry Wetlands" for her work with the project. [7]
The project includes storm water pre-treatment,storm water treatment wetlands of approximately 4 acres,open park space,and a parking lot sloped to drain into the wetlands;it also provides for wildlife viewing and educational opportunities. The project was completed in December 2011. [8]
The project is funded by Los Angeles Proposition "O",2004 Bond Measure,State and local grant money and funds from the EPA and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority were also used. [9]
Perry is a convert to Judaism. She had an Orthodox conversion in the 1980s,studying under Rabbi Chaim Seidler-Feller of UCLA's Hillel. [10] [11]
James Kenneth Hahn is an American lawyer and politician. A Democrat,Hahn was elected the 40th mayor of Los Angeles in 2001. He served until 2005,at which time he was defeated in his bid for re-election. Prior to his term as Mayor,Hahn served in several other capacities for the city of Los Angeles,including deputy city attorney (1975–1979),city controller (1981–1985) and city attorney (1985–2001). Hahn is the only individual in the city's history to have been elected to all three citywide offices. He is currently a sitting judge on the Los Angeles County Superior Court.

Eric Michael Garcetti is an American politician and diplomat who has been the United States ambassador to India since May 11,2023. He was the 42nd mayor of Los Angeles from 2013 until 2022. A member of the Democratic Party,he was first elected in the 2013 election,and re-elected in 2017. A former member of the Los Angeles City Council,Garcetti served as City Council president from 2006 to 2012. He was the city's first elected Jewish mayor,and its second consecutive Mexican-American mayor. He was elected as the youngest mayor in over 100 years,having been 42 at the time of his inauguration. Upon nomination by President Joe Biden after a previously failed nomination the year before,Garcetti was finally confirmed as Ambassador to India by the Senate on a 52–42 vote on March 15,2023.

No candidate received a majority of the primary votes to be elected outright,and the top two finishers,Eric Garcetti and Wendy Greuel advanced to a runoff vote. On May 21,2013,Garcetti was elected mayor with a majority of the votes in the runoff.

Measure S,originally known as the Neighborhood Integrity Initiative,was considered by voters in the city of Los Angeles in the March 7,2017,election. It would have imposed a two-year moratorium on development projects seeking variances from some aspects of the city's zoning code,made changes to the environmental impact statement requirements in the code,and required the city to update its comprehensive plan during the moratorium. The measure failed,with over two-thirds of those who voted on it voting against it.
Monica Rodriguez is an American politician in California. She currently serves as a Los Angeles City Council member,and represents the 7th district. The district is located in the San Fernando Valley,and includes the neighborhoods of Pacoima,Sunland-Tujunga,Sylmar,Shadow Hills,Sun Valley,Lake View Terrace,and Mission Hills. The 2022 Los Angeles mayoral election was held on November 8,2022,to elect the mayor of Los Angeles,California. A top-two primary was held on June 7,2022. Candidates could win the election outright by receiving more than 50% of the vote,but no candidate received a majority. More than forty candidates formed committees to run. Twenty-seven filed their declaration of intention to collect signatures for the ballot,and of these twelve qualified.
The 2020 Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors elections took place on March 3,2020,with runoff elections held on November 3,2020,to elect members of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. Three of the five seats on the board were up for election.

The seat of Mayor of Los Angeles was up for election due to incumbent Eric Garcetti's term limit. The seats of the Los Angeles City Controller and the Los Angeles City Attorney were also up for election,as their incumbents,Mike Feuer and Ron Galperin,were running for mayor and California State Controller respectively.
The 2020 Los Angeles County elections were held on November 3,2020,in Los Angeles County,California,with nonpartisan blanket primary elections for certain offices being held on March 3. Three of the five seats of the Board of Supervisors were up for election,as well as one of the countywide elected officials,the District Attorney. In addition,elections were held for various community college districts and water districts,as well as the Superior Court.
Lindsey Patrice Horvath is an American politician,advertising executive,and activist. She is currently serving as a member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors for the 3rd District,which covers the San Fernando Valley,and the Chair of Los Angeles County. She was previously a Councilmember for West Hollywood,California and was twice its mayor.
