Janaka de Silva FRCP FNASSL is a Sri Lankan physician and academic. He is Professor Emeritus of Medicine at the University of Kelaniya. [1] [2]
Janaka de Silva was educated at Royal College, Colombo and holds degrees from the universities of Colombo and Oxford (Pembroke College). [3] He had his higher specialist clinical training at the John Radcliffe Hospital.
De Silva was Professor and Chair of Medicine at the University of Kelaniya from 1996-2022. In 1997 he succeeded Carlo Fonseka as Dean of Medicine, a post he held for nine years. [4] He was also a member of the University Grants Commission from 2008-2011, and Director of the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine (PGIM), University of Colombo from 2014-2020. [5] Before becoming its Director he chaired a number of boards in the PGIM [6] where he and colleagues established the first formal training programme for gastroenterologists in Sri Lanka. Together with Kemal Deen and a few others he pioneered setting up of the liver transplant service at the Colombo North Teaching Hospital. [7]
De Silva’s most influential contributions to research stemmed from his abiding interest in health problems prevalent in Sri Lanka. [8] He was Chairman of the National Research Council from 2013-2019. [9] He has held several editorial appointments [10] [11] and served on committees in health and research organizations including the WHO, Wellcome Trust and the UK's National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR). He was President of the Ceylon College of Physicians in 2004, twenty years after his father, P. T. de Silva. [17] In addition to several awards and fellowships from academic and professional bodies, [18] [19] de Silva was conferred an honorary DSc by his university, and the national titular honour Vidya Jyothi - Sri Lanka's highest honor for science. The University of Kelaniya is a public university in Sri Lanka. Just outside the municipal limits of Colombo, in the city of Kelaniya, the university has two major institutions and seven faculties.
Established in 1870 as the Colombo Medical School, the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Colombo, is the second oldest medical school in South Asia. It is considered to be the top most medical faculty in the country which requires the highest entry qualification in GCE Advanced Level examination.

The Postgraduate Institute of Medicine (PGIM) of the University of Colombo is the graduate school that provides specialist training and board certification of medical doctors in Sri Lanka. The only type of its kind, it is similar to the prestigious Royal Medical Colleges of the United Kingdom.

Devaka Fernando is a Sri Lankan physician and academic. He was president of the Osteoporosis Society of Sri Lanka and the Founding Professor of Medicine at the University of Sri Jayawardanapura.

He served as the director of the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine; senior professor of medicine; head of the Department of Clinical Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo. He is currently serving as the Senior Professor of Medicine at General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University. He is also a consultant physician and nephrologist at National Hospital of Sri Lanka. He is also the founder and owner of Western Hospital.

Upendra Srinath Jayawickrama (FRCP), is a Sri Lankan physician (endocrinologist) and an artist. He was the founder of the Diabetes Association of Sri Lanka and a professor of pharmacology at the North Colombo Medical College.
Dr Bothalage Desmond James Stanley Fernando (1930–2012) was a Sri Lankan doctor and inventor, best known for his services to General Practice in the country.
Professor Kemal Deen is a Sri Lankan academic surgeon, and a consultant in GastroIntestinal Surgery. He is the Senior Professor of Surgery at the University of Kelaniya Medical School, Sri Lanka. He is a founder professor of the Department of Surgery and previously, he held the position of the head of Department of Surgery from 1998 to 2003. His academic degrees are MBBS (Peradeniya); MD (Birmingham); MS (Colombo); FRCS (Glasgow). In 2014, he was elected as the president elect for The College of Surgeons of Sri Lanka.
Vidya Jyothi Senior Professor Arjuna Priyadarsin de Silva MBBS, MSc, MD, FRCP (Lon) is a Sri Lankan Academic and Consultant Gastroenterologist. He is the Head of the Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine University of Kelaniya and Chairman of the Sri Lanka Anti-Doping Agency (SLADA).

Carlo Fonseka was a Sri Lankan physician, academic and political activist. He was a former dean of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya and a former president of the Sri Lanka Medical Council.
The Ceylon College of Physicians (CCP) is a professional organisation for specialists in medicine in Sri Lanka. It is a non-profit organisation, and members contribute towards its activities voluntarily. Its specialities currently include cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, nephrology, neurology, pulmonology, rheumatology and rehabilitation medicine. The college currently consists of over 700 members.
Senaka Rajapakse is a Sri Lankan academic, researcher and clinician. He is senior professor and chair of medicine, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka and the director of the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine, Sri Lanka.
Aloka Pathirana FRCS, MBBS, MS, is a Sri Lankan surgeon, doctor, academic and Professor of Surgery. He is a Specialist in Cancer Surgery. He is currently the Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, since November 2020.
