Jang Song-hyok (born 18 January 1991) is a North Korean association footballer who currently plays for Visakha in the Cambodian League and the North Korea national team. He plays as a centre back.

Career

Song-hyok represents Rimyongsu Sports Club in the DRP Korean league. He was selected to represent DPR Korea at the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Colombia. His first goal came against Tajikistan in the Third Round of World Cup qualifying. [1] During the 2012 AFC Challenge Cup Song-hyok would score a penalty to give North Korea the win over Turkmenistan in the final. [2]

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) section of the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification saw 43 teams competing for 4 or 5 berths in the final tournament in Brazil. As in recent tournaments the AFC had four direct qualifiers for the finals tournament in addition to a further possible place via the intercontinental play-offs against CONMEBOL's fifth-placed team, which was chosen through a random draw, rather than being decided by FIFA beforehand as in previous tournaments. Iran and South Korea from Group A, along with Australia and Japan from Group B won the 4 direct qualification positions, with Jordan defeating Uzbekistan in a play-off to see which team would face the 5th placed CONMEBOL team, Uruguay, for a place in the World Cup, eventually also failed to qualify for the competition.

The 2012 AFC Challenge Cup was the fourth edition of the tournament, an international football competition for Asian Football Confederation (AFC) member nations that are mainly categorized as "emerging countries" in the defunct Vision Asia programme. It took place in Nepal from 8–19 March 2012. Unlike in previous editions of the tournament, there were no automatic qualifiers. Therefore, 2010 champions North Korea, runners-up Turkmenistan, and third-placed Tajikistan had to navigate the qualification phase in order to return to the finals. North Korea successfully defended their title and qualified for the 2015 AFC Asian Cup.
