Janine Boyd (born February 5,1971) is an American politician who served as a member of the Ohio House of Representatives for the 9th district from 2015 to 2022. She resigned from her House seat in April 2022 to take a position in the United States Department of Health and Human Services.
A native of Cleveland Heights,Ohio,Boyd graduated from the Beaumont School. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish from Hillsdale College in 1993 and a Master of Arts in speech and language pathology from Michigan State University in 1999. [1] Boyd is the daughter of Barbara Boyd,who held the same seat from 1993 to 2000 and from 2007 to 2014.
Boyd previously served on council for Cleveland Heights, [2] where she often faced criticism for her attendance. [3] In 2012,she was appointed to council to replace Phyllis Evans. [4] In 2014,she announced that she would seek to replace her mother,Barbara Boyd,in the Ohio House of Representatives. [5] She faced Republican Charles Hopson in the general election, [6] and went on to win 85%-15%. [7]
During debate on an Ohio six-week abortion ban,banning abortion after detection of a "fetal heartbeat",Boyd drafted an amendment that would give an exemption to African American women,"whose history includes rape and forced birth imposed on enslaved women and black women after slavery". [8] The amendment failed,and the bill was signed into law. [9] A federal judge issued an injunction against the bill before it took effect. [10]
In April 2022,Boyd was appointed by President Joe Biden to serve as a regional director of the United States Department of Health and Human Services for the fifth region,which covers Illinois,Indiana,Michigan,Minnesota,Ohio,and Wisconsin. [11]
In late 2022,Boyd left the HHS to care for her ailing mother in Cleveland Heights. [12] Her mother died in November 2022. [13] In February 2023,City of Cleveland Heights Mayor Kahlil Seren appointed Boyd "to fill the vacant,unexpired term on Cleveland Heights City Council ending 12/31/2023." [14] [15] She resigned on March 18,2024 in order to relocate her family. [16]

After several years as a freelance writer,Schultz became a columnist at Cleveland's daily newspaper,The Plain Dealer,a role she held from 1993 to 2011,winning the 2005 Pulitzer Prize for Commentary for "her pungent columns that provided a voice for the underdog and underprivileged". She also wrote for USA Today and had a syndicated column for Creators Syndicate.

Nina Hudson Turner is an American politician,and television personality. A member of the Democratic Party,she was a Cleveland City Council member from 2006 to 2008 and a member of the Ohio Senate from 2008 until 2014. Turner was the Democratic nominee for Ohio Secretary of State in 2014,but lost in the general election against incumbent Jon Husted,receiving 35.5 percent of the vote. A self-described democratic socialist,her politics have been variously described as progressive,left-wing,or far-left.
Eugene Miller is a former member of Cleveland City Council and a former member of the Ohio House of Representatives,representing the 10th District from 2007 to 2009. He has represented Cleveland's Ward 10 since May 2009,when he was appointed to complete the unexpired term of Councilman Roosevelt Coats. He won an election for the seat in November 2009.
Nickie J. Antonio is an American politician from Ohio. A Democrat,she serves in the Ohio Senate representing the 23rd district,which is located in the western portion of Cuyahoga County and contains the western third of Cleveland and some of the nearby western suburbs. She previously served in the Ohio House of Representatives representing the 13th district from 2011 to 2018. A former member of Lakewood City Council,Antonio was elected to the lower chamber of the legislature in 2010 and took office on January 3,2011,and was re-elected in the 2012 General election,receiving 75% of the vote. She was re-elected consecutively in the General elections of 2014 and 2016. After being term limited in the lower chamber of the legislature,Antonio was elected to the upper chamber of the legislature in 2018 and took office on January 7,2019.
David Anthony Yost is an American politician and lawyer who currently serves as the 51st Attorney General of Ohio. A member of the Republican Party,Yost previously served as Ohio State Auditor.
Barbara Boyd was an American politician. She served twice as a Democratic member of the Ohio House of Representatives,serving the 9th district from 2007 to 2014,and the same district from 1993 until 2000.
