Jarl Edvard Malmgren, born 12 September 1908 in Karis, Finland, died 5 June 1942 in East Karelia, Soviet Union, [1] was a Finnish footballer who was killed in World War II. [2]
Malmgren played 8 seasons in the Finnish premier division Mestaruussarja for IFK Helsinki and was capped 31 times by the Finland national team. He was the captain of the Finland squad at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin. [3] [4]

Birger Jarl, also known as Birger Magnusson, was a Swedish statesman, jarl, and a member of the House of Bjelbo, who played a pivotal role in the consolidation of Sweden. His first marriage was to Princess Ingeborg of Sweden, which created his base of power. Birger led the Second Swedish Crusade, which established Swedish rule in Finland. Additionally, he is traditionally attributed to have founded the Swedish capital, Stockholm, around 1250. Birger used the Latin title of Dux Sweorum, and the design of his coronet combined those used by continental European and English dukes.

The 1929–32 Nordic Football Championship was the second Nordic Football Championship staged. Four Nordic countries participated, Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. The Battle of Helsinki was a 1918 Finnish Civil War battle, fought in 12–13 April between the German troops and Finnish Whites against the Finnish Reds in Helsinki, Finland. Together with the battles of Tampere and Vyborg, it was one of the three major urban battles of the Finnish Civil War. The Germans invaded Helsinki despite the opposition of Finnish White Army leader Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim who wanted to attack the capital city with his own troops after Tampere had fallen on 6 April. However, the Germans had their own interest in taking Helsinki as quickly as possible and then moving further east towards the Russian border. The city had been under Red control for 11 weeks since the beginning of the war.
