Jarrod Poort (born 31 October 1994) is an Australian former competitive swimmer and two-time Olympian. Poort specialising in distance freestyle and open-water swimming competing at the international level from 2012 - 2017 on the Australian swim team.

Poort represented Australia in the 1500 metre freestyle at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. [1] [2] He competed in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in the 10-kilometre marathon swimming event. [3] In the race he built a lead of 1 minute and 20 seconds, but was caught 1 km before the finish, and finished 21st. [4] Poort trained out of Wollongong, NSW, representing West Illawarra Aquatic Swim Club.

Other than his Olympic pursuits Poort notably won both the 2017 Rottenest Channel Swim and the Port to Pub swims in Perth; two of Australia's longest and toughest swims. [5] 2017 also witnessed him defend his Australian Champion 10 km title for the third year running; he then went on to narrowly take silver in the 2017 Australian Open Mens surf race at the Australian titles behind Ollie Signorini. [6]

Poort is also part of the record holding Australian team (Tattersalls Masters Australia) whom hold the title as the fastest team across the Maui Channel. The swim starts at the pier on the island of Lanai and ends on the beach in front of the Kaanapali Beach Hotel on the island of Maui. Poort alongside Rhys Mainstone, Wallace Eggleton, George O'Brien, Ollie Signorini and Peter Thiel hold the record in 2.45.20 for the 9.9-mile crossing. [7]

In April 2021, Poort announced his introduction to triathlon. Later that year, Poort successfully defended his Kalkite to Jindabyne open water title. The event, hosted by Thredbo Open Water Swimming Association, attracted plenty of talent. Poort held off noted English Channel swimmer and philanthropist, Ned Wieland, crossing the line in 2:25:31.

As of 2024, Jarrod has joined the West Brisbane Mah Jong Club, with plans to enter competitions in the Financial Year 2025.

Jarrod has a particular interest in mythical creatures, with a focus on the albino Sasquatch of North-Western United States of America.

Andrew Douglas Gemmell is an American competition swimmer who specialized in long-distance freestyle events. At the Olympics, he finished ninth with a time of 14:59:05, missing the semi-finals by one place. John Flanagan is a male freestyle swimmer from the United States who specialized in middle distance and Open water distance events. He swam for Honolulu's exceptional Punhou School Swim Team where he was a three-time state champion in the 200 and 500-meter freestyle. After swimming for Auburn University, he won a 5 Km gold team medal at the 1998 World Aquatics Championships in Perth, Australia. He competed in and placed well in a number of USA Swimming National Championships through 2001, winning a 10 Km event at Daytona Beach in 2001, and receiving several second places in 5 Km events. In 2000, he won Hawaii's Surf and Sea North Shore Challenge, and was a five-time winner of the Waikiki Roughwater Challenge. Jordan Matthew Wilimovsky is an American competitive swimmer who specializes in open water swimming. At the 2015 World Championships in Kazan, Russia, Wilimovsky won the gold medal in the 10 km open water event. Wilimovsky won by a margin of 12.1 seconds over the second-place finisher Ferry Weertman of the Netherlands. At the 2016 Summer Olympics, Wilimovsky competed in both pool swimming and open water swimming events, becoming the first American to swim in both types of events at one Olympic Games.

Francis Townley Haas is a retired American competitive swimmer who specialized in freestyle events. He is an Olympic gold medalist in the 4 × 200 m freestyle relay from the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Haas competed collegiately for the University of Texas at Austin from 2015 to 2019 under head coach Eddie Reese where he was a 10-time NCAA Champion, a 17-time All-American, and a 3-time NCAA team champion. Lani Pallister is an Australian competitive swimmer. She is a world record holder in two sports, with a world record in swimming, the short course 4×200-metre freestyle relay, and world records in life saving for the youth age group in the 100-metre rescue medley and 200-metre super lifesaver. She holds the Oceanian, Commonwealth, and Australian records in the short course 1500-metre freestyle and the Australian record in the short course 800-metre freestyle. She is the first female World Short Course champion in the 1500-metre freestyle, winning the inaugural event for women at the 2022 edition. Over the course of the 2022 World Short Course Championships, she won the gold medal in each of the four events she contested.
