Jasmine Kaur Roy is a two time National Award-winning independent filmmaker from India, making short films and documentaries with Avinash Roy, under their banner Wanderlust Films. [1] Her film Amoli is a documentary about the commercial sexual exploitation of children in India. The film won the 66th National Film Award for Best Investigative Film for the year 2018.
Jasmine graduated in Political Science (Hons.) from Lady Shri Ram College for Women, New Delhi and later specialized in Film Direction from the Film & Television Institute of India, Pune. She was also selected to be a part of Berlinale Talents 2015 as a participant director.[ citation needed ]
Jasmine has made short films and documentaries. Some of her films like Saanjh, Meena and Scavenging Dreams have won awards and have been screened at several international film festivals. [2] [3] [4] She is the recipient of the 52nd National Film Award (Best Film on Family Welfare) for her short film 'Saanjh' and the 66th National Film Award (Best Investigative Film) for her documentary film Amoli. [5] Her short film Raavi (2022) had its world premiere at the New York Indian Film Festival 2022.
Her 30-minute documentary film Amoli was produced by The Culture Machine and released online in May 2018. [11] [12] [13] [14] The film is narrated by Rajkummar Rao (Hindi), Vidya Balan (English), Kamal Haasan (Tamil), Puneeth Rajkumar (Kannada), Jisshu Sengupta (Bengali) and Nani (actor) (Telugu) and the music is by Tajdar Junaid. Aval Appadithan is a 1978 Indian Tamil-language drama film directed by C. Rudraiah in his directorial debut, and co-written by him with Somasundareshwar. Kamal Haasan is an Indian actor, film director, film producer, screenwriter and dance choreographer who works primarily in Tamil cinema. At the age of 5, he debuted as a child actor in the 1960 Tamil film Kalathur Kannamma, directed by A. Bhimsingh, which won him the President's Gold Medal. The Dirty Picture is a 2011 Indian Hindi-language biographical musical drama film inspired by the life of Silk Smitha, an Indian actress noted for her erotic roles. The filmmakers have clarified that the story is not officially or literally based on Smitha alone, but on many of her contemporaries such as Disco Shanti. It also resembles the personal lives of other women in popular culture, including actress and sex symbol Marilyn Monroe. The film was directed by Milan Luthria and co-produced by Shobha Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor, after Ekta came up with the idea and asked screenwriter Rajat Aroraa to pen a story based on it.
Mahabharat is a 2013 Indian Hindi-language animated film, directed by Amaan Khan and based on the Hindu epic of the same name. The film is produced by Kushal Kantilal Gada and Dhaval Jayantilal Gada. The film was a Christmas release on 27 December 2013. Vidya Balan is an Indian actress known for her work in Hindi films. Vidya Balan narrated the documentary. The narration for the film is in English while the interviewees speak in Hindi. The film was released in May 2018.
Jisshu Sengupta is an Indian actor, producer, television presenter and anchor who predominantly works in Bengali cinema, in addition to few Hindi and Telugu language films. Sengupta made his debut through a Bengali TV series, Mahaprabhu where he portrayed the role of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu; the role gained him much recognition. Subsequently, he made his film debut with Priyojon (1999), which became a debacle at the box office. In 2002, he played Tagore in Sukanta Roy's ambitious venture Chelebela alongside Debashree Roy playing Kadambari Devi. following which he appeared in a spate of critically and commercially unsuccessful projects.
