Jay B. Ramras (born July 31,1964) is an American businessman and politician. Ramras was a Republican member of the Alaska House of Representatives,being elected to the 10th District in 2004,and served three terms. [1] He served as Chair of the Education Committee,Vice-Chair of the State Affairs Committee,and is a member of the Health &Social Services Committee and the Resources Committee. He also served on the Commerce,Community &Economic Development,Education &Early Development,Environmental Conservation,and Law Finance Subcommittees,for the 26th Legislature. [2]
In 2010,Ramras ran for lieutenant governor,but lost the Republican primary to Mead Treadwell. [3]
Ramras is also a hotel and restaurant owner. Beginning in 1986 with a small restaurant called Jaybird's Wingworld,located in a strip mall just outside downtown Fairbanks, [4] he became successful enough to expand his business footprint throughout the Fairbanks area. In 1993,he purchased the Food Factory,located in the nearby Bentley Mall,from "Big Bob" Grocott,who established the restaurant in 1980. Ramras sold the Food Factory in 2010. He also later purchased Pike's Landing,near Fairbanks International Airport. In 2000,Ramras,along with partners,opened Pike's Waterfront Lodge next door to Pike's Landing. He has featured himself in numerous television commercials for his businesses over the years. In his commercials for the hotel,he has often espoused his political philosophy and positions.
Jay Ramras was born in Fairbanks,Alaska,the elder of two sons of Dan and Dorothy Ramras. [5] His father moved to Fairbanks from Brooklyn in 1947. He graduated from Lathrop High School in 1981,and earned a Bachelor of Arts in American History from the Syracuse University in 1984. [6]
Ramras has been a lifelong resident of Fairbanks,with two exceptions. He spent a year living in the small Alaska Native community of Allakaket during his childhood. In 1997,he briefly moved to New York City,seeking (ultimately unsuccessfully) to find a Jewish wife willing to move to Alaska with him,becoming a minor national celebrity in the process.
The 25th Alaska State Legislature served for a term lasting from January 16,2007 to January 19,2009. All forty representatives and one-half of the senate were elected to their terms on November 7,2006. The remaining ten senators were elected to their terms on November 2,2004.

Peggy Wilson is a former Republican member of the Alaska House of Representatives,who represented the 2nd District from 2001 through 2013 and the 33rd district from 2013 to 2015. She had also served as the majority leader. She had previously served for five years in the North Carolina House of Representatives. Wes Keller is a Republican member of the Alaska House of Representatives,representing the 14th District. He is currently serving as Co-Chair of the Health &Social Services Committee,Chair of the Administrative Regulation Review Committee,and is a member of the Community &Regional Affairs Committee,Education Committee,and the Fisheries Special Committee. He also serves on the Administration and Law Finance Subcommittees,for the 26th Legislature. Before elected to office Wes Keller was a building maintenance and construction contractor. Keller is a member of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC),serving as Alaska state leader.
Bob Herron is a Democratic former member of the Alaska House of Representatives,representing the 38th District from 2009 until 2017. Herron was the Majority Whip,granting him the distinction of being the only Representative in the United States elected as a Democrat who served as a statewide leader of a Republican party-majority legislative body. The official job of the Whip is to make sure that House members vote in line with Republican leadership.

Thomas served as a Republican member of the Alaska House of Representatives from the 5th District,comprising scattered rural and semi-rural communities throughout Southeast Alaska and stretching westward to Prince William Sound,from 2005 to 2013. Thomas served in the majority his entire tenure in the House and held multiple chairmanships. Thomas gained a seat on the powerful House Finance Committee during his second term and would eventually co-chair the committee. Charles Michael Chenault is an American politician in the state of Alaska. Chenault served as a Republican member of the Alaska House of Representatives from 2001 to 2019,representing portions of the Kenai Peninsula Borough,where he has lived for most of his life. Chenault served as the body's speaker from 2009 to 2017. He lost his position as house speaker to Democrat Bryce Edgmon when three Republicans joined a coalition of Democrats to form a bipartisan house majority after the general election in November 2016.
John Bruce Coghill Jr. is a former Republican member of the Alaska Senate,representing North Pole and other communities in the Fairbanks North Star Borough. First elected to the Alaska House of Representatives in 1998,he was appointed to his Senate seat in 2009 and was the Senate's majority leader from 2013 to 2016. Since November 2018,he has been the Rules Committee chairman.
