The Eurovision Song Contest 1970 was the 15th edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest and took place in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster Nederlandse Omroep Stichting (NOS), the contest was held at the RAI Congrescentrum on 21 March 1970, and was hosted by Dutch television presenter Willy Dobbe.

Halve Maen was a Dutch East India Company jacht that sailed into what is now New York Harbor in September 1609. She had a length of 21 metres and was commissioned by the VOC Chamber of Amsterdam in the Dutch Republic to covertly find a northern passage to Asia. The ship was captained by Henry Hudson, an Englishman in the service of the Dutch Republic.
Zuyderzée was a department of the First French Empire in the present-day Netherlands. It was named after the Zuiderzee sea inlet. It was formed in 1810, when the Kingdom of Holland was annexed by France. Its territory corresponded more or less with the present-day Dutch provinces of North Holland and Utrecht. Its capital was Amsterdam.
Navigable aqueducts are bridge structures that carry navigable waterway canals over other rivers, valleys, railways or roads. They are primarily distinguished by their size, carrying a larger cross-section of water than most water-supply aqueducts. Roman aqueducts were used to transport water and were created in Ancient Rome. The 662-metre (2,172 ft) long steel Briare aqueduct carrying the Canal latéral à la Loire over the River Loire was built in 1896. It was ranked as the longest navigable aqueduct in the world for more than a century, until the Magdeburg Water Bridge in Germany took the title in the early 21st century.

The Houtribdijk is a dam in the Netherlands, built between 1963 and 1976 as part of the Zuiderzee Works, which connects the cities of Lelystad and Enkhuizen. On the west side of the dike is the Markermeer and on the east is the IJsselmeer. The 26-kilometer-long dike was intended for the Markerwaard, but the construction of this polder was abandoned in 2003 due to environmental concerns. The Houtribdijk was widened and reinforced between 2017 and 2020.
Bovenkarspel Flora is a railway station on the outskirts of Bovenkarspel, Netherlands. The station opened in 1977 and is located between Hoorn and Enkhuizen. The station is on the Zaandam–Enkhuizen railway. The station and services are operated by the Nederlandse Spoorwegen. The station was originally opened to serve visitors to the annual "Westfriese Flora" flower fair held there, which is why Flora is included in the name. In 1999 an outbreak of legionellosis occurred during the flower fair which caused at least 32 deaths. The fair was renamed the "Holland Flower Festival" in 2003 and was relocated to Zwaagdijk-Oost in 2005.

A naviduct is a special class of navigable aqueduct, in which the waterway also includes a lock. One example of a naviduct has been built at Enkhuizen on the Houtribdijk in the Netherlands on the instructions of the Rijkswaterstaat. This cost over €55 million and was completed in 2003. It is big enough to simultaneously transfer two large Rhine river-barges from the Markermeer to the IJsselmeer or vice versa. The structure was chosen because a busy waterway crosses a dam carrying a busy road, but the space available for separate aqueduct and lock facilities was restricted.
St Francis Xavier Church is a Roman Catholic Parish church in Enkhuizen, West Friesland, Netherlands. It was founded and is run by the Society of Jesus and is in the Diocese of Haarlem-Amsterdam. It is situated on Westerstraat 107 and was built in 1905 on the site of a clandestine church. The baptismal font is a registered national monument.
Dinah Kaye was a Scottish jazz singer. Born in Burma to Scottish parents, she spent her childhood entering singing competitions in Edinburgh and later moved to London to further her career. Kaye gained interest after performing the song "Jealous Eyes" and toured the Americas in the 1950s, before returning to London to relaunch her career. She represented the United Kingdom at the 1962 Sopot Jazz Festival, as well as touring the globe.
Uralskiy Dixieland is an oldest traditional jazz bands in Russia. The band was formed in Chelyabinsk in 1969 under the aegis of the regional Philharmonic under the leadership of jazz musician and trumpeter Igor Bourco. Over the years, the band has performed throughout Russia, former USSR, and most European countries. Uralskiy Dixieland is the winner of the All-Union Contest of Variety Artists and international jazz festivals in Tbilisi (1978), Moscow (1984), Baku (1985), etc.
Akhnaton is a music venue in Amsterdam, founded in 1953. The venue is also host to pop-up restaurants, and political conferences.
